Newcomer / Intro Cargo scoop?

I'm wanting to try some mining, and I am wondering where to find a Cargo Scoop. I have looked in the Outfitting page and found Fuel Scoops under Optional Internal, but no Cargo Scoop. Do they only sell them at certain systems, or is a Fuel Scoop the same thing (it wass in the original Elite game, but not in Frontier - Elite II).

Any tips welcome :)

Cheers all

The cargo scoop is a built in function of your cargo hatch and already built into your ship, you just need to press the right button and a light will pop on, your speed will drop and a square targeting display will appear. To actually scoop you will need to target the object and slow below 40, it is best to concentrate on the new screen as the view from your cockpit is a long way off the line of your scoop and too many collisions with your ship will destroy the targeted item.

Do ships have the toggle mode on your cargo scoop? On my SRV when I pressed the cargo scoop it would deploy and retract immediately until I figure out there was a toggle to go from open and close to hold it open and press again to close it.

What they said. For scooping any larger amout of items (like when mining) it is advisable to fit a collector limpet controller though. Don't forget you need to load up on limpets too. When you have a certain item targeted while releasing the limpet it will only collect that one and them self-destruct. You need to deselect targets before launching the limpet for it to automatically collect everything within its range.

Wow, and here's me with a cargo scoop and never realised it. Lol

Thanks everyone for your help!

Although it is called a Cargo Hatch in the Modules panel - lowering the cargo hatch enables / deploys it as a cargo scoop.

(The indicator light below the fuel gauge is labelled Cargo Scoop as it illuminates when it is deployed.)

I don't recall there being an option for anything other than toggle for the ships scoop.

Cargo scoop behaviour can be changed from “hold” to “toggle” in the bindings, if I recall correctly.

If set to hold, you need to hold the associated key down, if toggle, hit the key to open, hit again to close.
If i recall, default key = home.

In case of the Sidewinder don't forget to retract it's landing gear - it stands on 3 skids - and the frontal one is centered and in the way eventually.

Yeah, I figured that one out on my SRV but I didn't know if was the same setup in the ship with a hold or toggle. I argued with my SRV cargo scoop for hours till the light bulb went on.
