What, if any, are the benefits, or are there draw backs to leaving your scoops and landing gear open/down?

Other than Frame shift not working, is there any flight benefits to closing them? Are you more maneuverable with all gear stowed?

In normal flight, I think the only drawback to leaving your gear down and scoop out is looking like a muppet.

There was some speculation, although nothing confirmed, that you might take more damage or certain modules were more vulnerable with gear down, cargo bay open.

It could be seen as a sign of submission i.e. you can see the guts of my ship in there. Don't shoot!
