Cargo storage at stations

The only problem I can see is one of persistence. The game would have to keep track of possibly millions of units of cargo on countless planets fot god knows how long.

Another solution is to let the cargo stay with each ship which makes the swapping from one ship to another problem free. Also, let ship to ship transferring of cargo which already exists in game with mats.
Frankly, not having any storage is really at odds with every other game that has storage and indeed a persistent world and has been in games for over two decades.. The only solution according to Fdev is to buy a carrier so you can store a few items, something casual players don't have the time or resources to achieve,

It also lets you move cargo around with absolutely no risk of interacting with players or NPCs using ship transfers.

Mats storage capacity is fixed, ships capacity can be varied leading to issues of what happens to the excess when you switch to a smaller ship.

A possible solution would be to disallow ship transfer for ships stored with cargo. But then ships would probably just be abused as cargo storage, something Frontier clearly doesn't want outside Fleet Carriers.

I proposed this years ago, the idea of rentable storage in stations, and you have to be friendly at least with them to rent. You rent an office and a depot from the station. The office could be a small odyssey space to walk around in, you'd get there from the elevator in the station.

the reason to have multiple depots in different stations is you can transfer cargo, send AND receive. I would like to also extent this functionality to modules as well.

It would be great to be able to place remote buy and sell orders with stations you do business with alot. Then have those goods transferred to and from places.

Yeah you can already effectively do that. Solo or PG mode prevents interaction with players, and tapping on SCO causes NPCs to either be unable to close the gap or even outright despawn in some cases I've seen.

Yup,been banging on about this for years, here and on youtube. It is just so ludicrous that you have to, in most cases, sell your hard won stored items in one ship, so you can swap to a smaller ship or one with lesser cargo space. Just plain stupidity in design. This flaw is one of the principle reasons why I stopped playing regularly.
