News has been announced of the death of 2000AD artist, co-creator of Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog, Carlos Ezquerra at the age of 70.

I gotta' couple friends who love this stuff.

They're gonna' be pretty saddened by this news.
 
People who read and loved comics of the 70s and 80s are having it rough, in the last and upcoming decade. They will inevitably see all their heroes die. :(

I was very sad to hear he had left us. His was the first artist's style that I learned to recognise instantly when reading 2000AD (and I didn't really bother reading lesser comics). His Dredd was always a step above most others, especially with his vision of Mega City One as a whole and his ability to make it feel like a living place. Nobody else could produce such a wide array of mutants so incredibly consistently in the Strontium Dog stories either - each page could have with twenty background characters that were more interesting and distinctive than the lead characters in other strips. I haven't bought 2000AD for years and years now but have picked up a few of the collections recently, especially of his stories.
