Just tried to get some CMM composites from a trailblazers mega ship and the amount of carriers camped out is large , 150 ish seems the average.

How does everyone else do it, find a surface depot or just try and brave the multitude of campers in the trailblazers mega ship systems?

Some carriers seem to live there, kept my eye on one system for a few days and some carriers closest don’t seem to be moving anywhere.

you can usually find plenty of of nearby systems with free parking spot right at the star. highwake from megaship to a system with your carrier right at the jumppoint will even save you supercruise to your carrier if you were in the system.
but mostly i dont even bother going for the megaship. plenty of resources everywhere. i guess large amount of cmm could justify it, but id still bet that parking your carrier right above ground port that has them could still be faster, or compratively similar at least.

Plenty of surface ports, higher volumes and lower prices, search from your local area via Inara and you may find one close enough to where you are building that it will be faster to collect direct rather than using a carrier.

That depends on if you are going somewhere in system or another system.

Distance in system can also be a friend, 3 - 4,000 Ls using LSD[1] can be faster than 8 - 10 Ls without:)

I park in a particular system, near what used to be the perimeter, and use the ground ports as well as nearby systems to get the goods needed to build whatever I’m building. Lots of stuff nearby and I used only in game tools to find all of it and the locations are in my spreadsheet for each commodity.

Getting the supplies from a mega ship would be easier, IF it wasn't for the FCs being in the way.

Since the FCs are in the way and that is unlikely to change, the alternatives suggested become the easy way.

Does that make sense? :)

I bought 0 from the trailblazers and certainly not from scalpers. Had a nice ground port within a jump to collect the goods. Tried to make my own but that seemed to have not panned out. Still my colony now sources a number of colony building goods, just none of the composites right now.

I go to a refinery station first and get everything I can from there. I'll then go to one of the trailblazer megaship locations and get everything else (incl CMM composites) and get them from there. I just think it's much easier than trying to go to surface ports for CMM and other different places for the other bits and bobs you need. With the last carrier jump I did at the trailblazers location I ended up right next to the trailblazer ship so it was real easy to do the pickups.

I found everything I needed for my outpost within 3 jumps (for my T8) so I've just been going to the various orbital and surface stations to source everything directly.
My FC is parked right next door to the construction site (6,000 km), but I just use it for parking my spare ships.
