carrier ships

ED needs carriers.

If I want to move systems I imagine I will have to sell all my stuff bar one ship or move them one at a time.

In eve I had a chimera and could move all my stuff with me around null / low sec. Will Fd be implementing something like this?

I had a different ship for every type of activity.

Yes it does.. I'd like to see that feature a lot.
I think they have mentioned that it's intended.. EVE didn't have it originally either.

What`s next ? Borg Tactical Cubes or the Deathstar ?
This is not watching your ship do the job, it`s a sim. EVE and Elite are too different pairs of shoes.

... you're always watching your ship do the job... so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Carriers would be a nice addition.

I like the ida that the ship is just a template and that you can sell the parts at one location and then build out the template at the other from the click of a button. That rather than physical shipment.

The Anaconda can act as a "micro" carrier.. When the release the modules for it.. Don't know what other ships will be capable of it.

A ship ferry service was planned in the DDA's, but isn't in the game yet. No idea of it's still planned, but the idea was that you'd pay a fee to have an owned ship moved to your current location, and it would take a reasonable time to get there. This was also tied into paying a fee for hangar storage, but I don't know if that's still planned either.

Also in the "not here yet and don't know if it's still planned" category is that some of the largest ships could carry the smallest ships internally. I believe the Anaconda was mentioned as being able to carry a Sidewinder internally. We don't have ships in the game yet, that could plausibly carry the larger ships like Vipers or Cobras.

Meanwhile, it's not that onerous to just sell off your fleet and buy another one elsewhere. All you lose is some downtime in finding upgrades. It's not like we have any deep personalization of our ships that matter yet. They're interchangeable.

I don't think FD would allow that, because hunting for rare upgrades is a part of the game when you outfit a ship. It's an annoying part of the game when you can't find what you want for a while, but that's part of the time sink of an MMO-ish design.

Needs... a specific sort of carriers. Sizeable, privately-owned ships with the capacity to launch and retrieve smaller craft. The first, presumably smallest known for the moment is the anaconda. But somewhere along the way, there should be bigger designs, up to and including the existing imperial and fed warships. It's as much my suspicion as it is a wish, that while small, cheap ships do the best and hardest fighting, they need to be ferried into the battle onboard something bigger, much more expensive and with significantly better jump range.

Any group here would benefit from such a mechanism - refinery ships and collectors while mining, Long-distance traders with escort, Pirate baseships with scouts and finally, flat-out naval vessels with onboard fighter squadrons. Those small craft could be driven by either real people or NPCs - doesn't really matter. Crew mechanics apply.

Most ships in the game right now have cockpits. An anaconda and arguably a python - those have a bridge. And room for a little friend.

I'm pretty certain that Anacondas and other large ships will have the capability to store a few fighters. I suspect this will come when we are able to walk around ships and other players are able to dock with/crew other player ships. Hopefully sooner rather than later. :)

Let's be honest, by 3300 everything will be templated and fabricated. Nobody will bother hauling goods - they'll be printed. It makes sense that a person can acquire a license to have x number of fabricated instances, destroying one at site A and returning the raw materials back in the fabricator pool - then printing them at the other site.

If you want to play hunt the loot, finding the template still gives you that 'thrilling' experience.
