Newcomer / Intro Carriers

Hi I am playing solo and tried once to dock on a carrier to refuel but was denied. Are carriers useful in solo mode or just open mode?

Carriers landing rights are set by the owners
So an owner can block you in every mode. including solo and private group... by setting its landing access
The carrier is permanent asset across all modes not limited to a single mode ...

The Carriers status Is shown in system map and on the navigation panel when you select to target it before you approach...

Carriers cross all three modes of game play. It doesn't mater which game mode you are in. Carrier owners decide who can land or not. Inara can provide information given what a carrier offers or not.

When you do find a carrier that will let you dock think carefully about staying on board while you are logged off as you might find yourself thousands of light years away when you come back.

Thanks so when you are logged off the Elite Dangerous universe time keeps ticking and events move along?

Indeed, there is no pause in the game.
You may log out, but the time is ticking in real-time and the galaxy keeps spinning

Also carriers are persistent assets - visible and accessible across mods and platforms, no matter if the owner in logged in the game or is taking a break
For example my Epic alt is usually traveling on my XB carrier

Yes the universe is always ticking away and there is no pause.

Important point if you leave the game to the menu headed Resume the game is still running and your ship is still doing whatever it was doing you have to exit to the main menu headed Continue for your ship to no longer be visible in the game.

You can go to that first menu and walk away but when you come back your ship could have been destroyed by pirates or even just running out of fuel, fuel is used to provide power for eerything.

Well, yes and no. Yes when it comes to carriers because they're owned by players and players move their carriers.
In all other cases though, just parking in space or in a station or even on a planet, when you log off, your ship is safe. I won't find your ship parked on a random planet and be able to destroy it when you are logged off but if you land on my carrier and log off, I could take you thousands of light years away stranding you.

NINJA'd!

Well, that is actually a real stuff... You could literally end up being someone else slave, if you are not careful who's ship you board...

And one last comment: I have heard stories of players ship being destroyed, during their absence in game... They allegedly parked their ship in such an unfortunate way, that the were in the path of another body, who crushed them overnight, when they were logged off... I do not know for sure that this is possible, but I always fly couple of hundreds of Ls away from any orbital path, before I log off...

No. If you are logged off, your ship cannot be destroyed. Ships are not a persistent element in the universe - they do not exist when you log off. If you park somewhere, and push pause, but don't logoff, your ship can be destroyed - because there is no game pause button, no matter how many people have tried.... pause does not exist in ED.

Well as I said, I heard stories... And I take precautions based on those stories... I do many other superstitious things in my life... ;)

There was a time when the checking routines when you logged back in didn't work that well and would let you log in to the same coordinates you logged off from even if a bit of debris like say a planet had moved into that location while you were out, usually the planet survived.

But keep in mind there is still at least one location where you can still be hit by a planet before you can evade it*.

*No you actually can't outrun it.
