Has anyone else noticed that there is a difference in how cartographic data behaves? It seems to be tied to certain regions of space or maybe I'm doing something different without knowing it...
An example :
I dock at a system (near) Yoru, and I go into Universal Cartographics, filter 'show by colour : Local cartographic data'. Only data available is selected so all I see is a couple blue dots surrounding the current system. I buy the data of every system <1500 credits. Those over that threshold usually yield a nice profit if you scan them manually so I leave them "unbought".
Next I go visit these "unbought" systems and when I arrive, nothing is there according to the system map until a few seconds later the sun is suddenly discovered and moments later the honk reveals the system. I then proceed to scan every planet/object. Once finished I return to the system I was docked at.
Upon return to the system I was docked at, I look at the Local cartographic data again and the system I scanned is now available for sale for 0 credits. I buy it, and can then go to any other system >20ly away from the scanned system (so not the one I was docked at because they only have data for systems <20ly) to sell my exploration data for the full amount.
So first question : Why do I still have the option to "buy" this last bit of "nothing" for 0 credits. It can't be asteroid belts because even in the cases where there were belts, I scanned those too. It doesn't make a difference.
Then, I go to Robigo mines and along the way I noticed coming across systems that were "half" explored. Like some had a few planets where I knew the name but not the even all were honked (so I could see like planet 2 and 6 but nothing else, even though these were >6000 ls away from the sun). I haven't come across this kind of thing since beta, usually either everything is known or nothing, not this partial stuff. But that might be because I've been hanging out further from the bubble. (although Yoru is smack in the middle and there were no cases like this there).
So next I dock, I check the local cartographic data, and I keep a list of the expensive ones to visit once again. This time I find one of 18 000 credits to buy so I go to check it out. After scanning it fully as before, I return to Robigo and this time.... I can still buy all of the local cartographic data for 18 000??? In the previous example (and previous tests) the price had always gone down according to the value of the planets I scanned there. So after scanning everything the price should have been 0.
Even stranger, I do the same thing to another system that was "partially uncovered" as mentioned earlier, this time the price...well..dissapeared altogether, as I would have expected to be the case every time. Meaning it's no longer listed as a system with local cartographic data available from my docked location after scanning it (even though it was listed before I went to scan it).
So to summarize :
Why does this happen?

So to summarize :
- I always check before and after scanning a system if there is local cartographic data available from a nearby station. I'm only talking about cases where there is data available in this post.
- After scanning three different results have been observed :
- The price for the cartographic data has dropped (if everything was scanned, the price is now 0 and the system is still listed)
- The price for the cartographic data has remained the same (and I'll have to check if it dissapears after selling the data elsewhere)
- The price for the cartographic data is no longer available because it's listed as having no local cartographic data available now
