Newcomer / Intro Cartographic Sale

Yeah you're in the Panoi system, about 42LYs away from the noob zone. If I was you I'd stay out there now. Get that permit revoked and start seeing what the game is actually all about.
Ha! Too late she cried! I'm actually on my way back now! I wanted to check to see if the permit was still working. I thought I'd be able to top-up with fuel at stations I pass along the way. Wrong! 😞 I'm not finding enough stations ......
I have a decision to make:
try to get back to Panoi with the fuel I have left;
or
carry on towards Matet hoping to meet enough fuel stations along the way.

If I carry on, I'm really fly blind as non of the systems I visit, have I been to before and therefore have no details about their makeup. :D
I need to be-friend a fellow CMDR to check each system's details for me. I can provide the list of systems .......... only joking ..... ;)

What I don't understand is how I got to Panoi in the first place. I just seemed to logon one day and there I was. I certainly didn't journey there by choice ..... intentionally that is. And where did I get the fuel ? ..... I don't have a scoop yet ...... strange .....

This is why you should never not equip a fuel scoop. Like, that should be the first thing you do with any ship ever. Even if it's the lowest class and smallest size, get a fuel scoop on there and your chances of not dying go up tremendously.

Also there's no reason to fly all the way back to the noob zone just to see if you have the permit still, you can check your permits in your right hand panel. Tab across a few screens and scroll down (I forget the exact menu name right now) and you'll see a least of all permits you possess. If it's not there, you're not getting back in. Not that I would recommend even going back anyway. You should really out-grow the noob zone pretty quickly honestly. Staying there any more than a few hours is like... starting up Runescape and staying on the starting island for anything more than an hour. It's really only for getting you used to flying around in supercruise, jumping to a few nearby systems and learning to dock and do some basic trading. There's nothing for you there. You'll find better ways to earn money, and better ships, equipment and just things to do outside of it.

Oh and if you're ever worried about not knowing what's in a system beforehand, (for instance, flying around looking for a station whilst not having a fuel scoop equiped) look at the system population before you jump to it. If it's 0, or just very very low, chances are there's no stations there. Look for something with a higher population, like in the millions. They'll almost certainly be services available there, though you still won't know how far you might have to supercruise to them once you get there.

Yes thanks for all of that. I'd been warned numerous time about the fuel scoop and I did also want to see if I could get back. Stupidly without a fuel scoop! Ha!

I'm actually enjoying myself. It's the first real challenge I had! Maybe I'll destroy myself rather than run-out of fuel and then I can be re-born with all my Carto' saves ....... Ha!

EDIT: in Italics
I start checking those populations, thanks.

Well ........ luck is with me. (y) While I've been posting here, I got dropped from the server and as a consequence had to re-join. When dropped I was actually sitting out in space and not docked anywhere. When I re-joined I was in the Shkaplerov Hanger in the Changthini System fully fueled up!

Bit disappointed really. :(
However ................................... now where do I buy that Fuel Scoop ........ :D

Amazing ...... I've still got the permit and yet I've been so far away, and I am still far away, from it .....

I really have no idea what's going on with your game if you're suddenly in random systems that you weren't in before and now have all your fuel back. That... shouldn't be happening. Unless you did in fact just run out of fuel and died and respawned.

Also please don't tell me you were flying to all of those "unexplored" planets individually or something to try and find a station? Cos you really don't need to do that. The system map you posted there is already showing everything. They're already explored, since others have mapped them. Planets with stations on will have an icon on them, or you can just zoom in on that screen and see them directly, and the info tab will even show you what services they offer. You should be able to see any and all stations within seconds of opening the system map. It would literally have been quicker to just scan through them all than to take that screenshot, edit it and post it here telling us you haven't "explored" it yet.

Remember the game crashes (when the link is lost to the server) while I'm journeying between systems in hyperdrive or system details (eg. Planet to Planet) in Supercruise. It has to reconnect somewhere and maybe it picks a system close to where I dropped out. I would not expect it to re-join in the middle of an incompleted flight mode

I thought I personally had to visit all unexplored systems (that is unexplored by me) to be able to name the system's details: Planet, Moons, stations, etc.
Example:
ED - Changthini(2).jpg

The stars, planets, and maybe any moons are shown as unexplored. That is unexplored by me. Thousands of other CMDR's have been here, but their discoveries remain unknown to me. However, the two stations and the carrier's detail are shown to me. I'm assuming that is because I am docked at one of the stations.

If I target another system while docked in the Changthini system, which I have not visited, this is what I see:
MANTXE

I can't see a system map for MANTXE (or don't think I can) because I have not yet been to visit it personally.

Some systems are known to all, like Sol or Achenar (generally anything with >1M population). You can also buy system data from the galmap (this will rob you of the chance to gain and sell the data yourself tho).

But you are confirming that I need to visit the system and then explore it so as to name all the "unexplored" ? ie. They will not be named for me just because others have been there before me ?
EDIT: in Italics
Except systems like Sol and Achenar (> 1M population).

I'd have to check myself. It's been too long since I've done anything except immediate honk a system I get into. I think the honk might resolve the names.

Is there a way of telling a planet's population rather than just the system ? Thanks.
