Cash for credits? Thoughts?

How is paying real money for credits different from pay to win ? If you pay to get enough credits for a Federal Dropship / Imperial Clipper with massive A-grade Outfits / Weapons you're effectively paying to win fights. Same goes for paying to get that Lakon Type-9 and smuggling tons of stolen goods, or a good exploration thingie.

Personally I think buying credits would take a load of fun out of the game and so I wouldn't do it - for me, the challenge is starting with the 100cr and basic ship and turning that into a fortune through clever trading and other activities.

I hear that and typically agree... When the game isn't a grind fest. When there's progression, etc. For me, with limited time with a baby and work... I just might be willing to spend $25 to buy a ship. It doesn't take away from anyone else's enjoyment and it doesn't take me a year to enjoy an aspect of the game I'm interested in.

Now, of course it can all go south when you talk about buying items in a game for PvP that basically give the person with the biggest wallet an advantage. I do not think that applies to Elite though. Otherwise, no, a million times over no - don't allow it. But I think we're ok.

Or put another way - there is no "winning" in a sandbox game like this.

This is just another Baited Troll Thread designed to stir up trouble.

The Braben has several times stated, "No Paywall, no buying in game currency", and, "I hate Pay-to-win", read the history watch the interviews, get facts.

ED is not just another money-sucking MMO.

Nice one Skymax!

Way to go bringing ancient threads back from the dead!

Personally, I think it is a bad idea for much the same reasons mentioned by several CMDRS on this thread. It WOULD affect my game.

But, I can totally apprieciate FD's position of funding though. They're a business, not a charity, and servers don't come free.

I'd be far more open to paying a monthly/yearly subscription to continue playing (£20-£30 a year).

Yeah, this is a thread originally from 2012. David Braben has said that they will not be funding Elite Dangerous this way.

If you want to see how they plan on funding the game, read the share prospectus here.
