Casual fear

As you are aware I do shift work so regular time playing ED is hit and miss at times more so if the wife wants me to interact with other humans or her self (selfish I know) so with the new mods coming I assume FD will make it a grind to get the bits to mod ships as to stop guys rocking modded cutters or vultures in 5 min. Im happy with that but I foresee the young types with no jobs just hammering it to mod a ship in a few days and some poor noob like me who would just about modded a shield booster in a 3 week period ending up like the ships in this vid by bored griefer squads trolling CG's. Fear the change people ;)

I understand your pain. I do shift work, and I work long shifts 10 to 12 hrs, and on my days off I am doing stuff for my wedding in October. Haven't played in 5 days. 😔

yeah managed to get a game on Tuesday night but I hadn't been on for a week or so. Also yeah 12hr shifts suck but in my job it means you get a few more days off in a Rota unlike the 8 hr rota which is pap

I know what you mean.
As a trucker, I only get to play on weekends, and that's only if the wife doesn't have other ideas!
However, my understanding of the material collection is that for the most part it's done during normal game play aside from the odd rare.
As for the young and unemployed, I'm just hoping their rush for power will result in the total over clocking of their ships so that they cook from the insides the moment they go into battle!

that would be funny as hell, personally I hope their parents tell them to get out and get a job you lazy parasitic entity words I will use on my own when they get to employable ages (5+)

I wouldn't worry about it too much the higher level engineer mods appear to be locked to the high level Elite ranks in each discipline.
And there is no way to move up those ranks other than playing the game.
So there wont be the low level Vette/Cutter scenario that we have at the moment.
They will be able to relatively easily access some mods but then so will everyone else.

that's good to know thanks for the heads up

also, there is no need to compete with anybody ingame, which i like a lot about this game.

i'd so much love to have elite ranking in exploration, or to have 200 mio spare to outfit a trading conda without selling any ship, but i don't. actually i don't have to. actually i'm still on the way somewhere, blazing my own trail. it is quite a difference to that mythical years i still remember, when there wasn't a job or kids or a wife - i still remember myself 3 weeks playing 18-20 hours a day :)

Not competing just looking at survivability for the space pig I bought :). Oh the joyful days of doing what I wanted , playing til silly o'clock because I could. No wife no daughter beer tokens were few and far between and many many ladies. Now wife, child and my own home so trade offs ect

It bothers me sometimes. I work Mon-Fri, but with a LOT of travel, so for instance, tonight will be my first time playing since last Monday. But I kind of accept that with this game, and any others I have ever invested in.

But with this game more than others, I don't feel like I'm competing, or put out if one of my friends has a better ship or more money than me. I feel like the game works at any level of play. And people are so busy with their own plans, and their own idea of what goals are that it doesn't matter.

I do hope the upcoming changes don't break that feeling for me.

my experience from beta is, you'll can do good in a courier, cobra, dbs ... clipper etc.

i will fly smaller ships in the beginning.

the version for pc runs okayish on my travel laptop. wouldn't do pvp on it, though, and horizon needs to load for 10 minutes - but without hotas obviously, i resort to exploration.

this. after playing competetive real time strategy games for many years, elite is very relaxing for me :)

I'm not sure this is much different from how it's always been Holey, me auld mucker. ED's always required a time investment that us older players find hard to maintain, and I suspect also that it's primarily younger players who use in-game 'exploits' like Robigo to get to the big shinies as quick as. But skill's skill for one thing, and space is still a mind-bogglingly big thing. We're be alright. If all else fails, we'll have PG. I know, heresy, but it's there for the protection of those who want it.

Since my divorce in 2012 i've had a series of diabolical relationships, including just recently so i have decided to hang up my spurs, stay single and live online :) It's not for everyone but i have always been a bit of a loner and have felt happiest in my own company.

Filthy casuals beware? Pfft, I'll have the time to grind for such things, and I'll still not be ready for when someone's A-spec't, perfect top-teir engineered roles on every single module Corvette inevidebly shows up and destroys my world with a single flick of a finger!

Jeez, do I sympathise! I separated in 1998 and the subsequent time I was on my own were some of my happiest days. Might have helped that I made sure to recover my Saturn from the former marital home, and then bought myself an N64 with Goldeneye, AND bought myself Half-Life for my new PC. Yep, I didn't miss that she-dog at all. Course then I met Lee and we've been married 16 years now, but she's the one who encouraged me to get another Mega Drive, and she found a couple of Amigas (A12 and a 1-meg A5) on Freecycle. Yep, I'm a lucky guy. Well until her disabilities took more of a toll, but that's another story.

yeah true but it will make those who wish to be 'cockwombles' easier to womble that

solo is ok but self abuse gets a bit dull after a while

No mention of us old, retired folks who also play 10-18 hours a session in between bouts of dementia :)
whats a retirement plan? by the time I get there the age will be 98 and I would have been fired for dying on the job 2 yrs before that

bloody youths not getting jobs and getting to play all day
