Caught Without Insurance: Game Over, or New Game+?

Alright so the title might be a little misleading. I, like many players, was recently caught flying without insurance. Lemme tell ya, losing two Asps in half an hour hurts. But I had to ask myself. Was is really my progression that took a hit, or was it just my pride?

Answer: my pride. I'll be the first to admit that I absolutely hate losing at anything and everything from arguments to video games. But was it rage-quit worthy to go from nine million in assets to 50k? Nope.

I bought an eagle, slapped in the cheapest kit I could afford and went right back to my bounty hunting habits. I learned something pretty valuable in having "lost it all."

"If you can't afford to lose it, don't fly it." "If you don't know how to fly the 'lite version, don't buy the big shiny expensive one." "If you can't make a profit versus upkeep and expenditures, sell it and downgrade before you lose it permanently."

From one unknown commander to the masses out there, this Eagle is taking the time to do it right with what I know now and didn't know before. This bounty hunter will be seeing you in the unfriendly skies real soon.

after reading the horror stories i parked my viper up after the first loss and went back to my eagle to get my remaining 8K above the vipers rebuy cost. glad i took that approach as now i'm in an Asp the loan wouldn't help me out, lesson thankfully learned early :)

Maybe I am overly cautions but I wait till have have enough money to buy a ship at least twice to 4 times over before I upgrade.

i always try and have a freighter of some sort good to go near Diso so if i eat space-dust its not much effort to earn some fast credits

My insurance policy includes having multiple ships for multiple roles. If I lose one ship, and the insurance costs push me too low to risk flying it again, then I flip over to my existing alternate ship and work up the cash.

It's for this reason that I'm willing to dump all my available cash into cargo, sometimes. Worst case, I have to take a loan to replace the ship and work in my smaller alternative one for a while.

I am kind of jealous. Would like to start all over again, but wiping my safe without beeing forced to will not happen...

Very nearly happened to me a couple of days ago - was 12% hull integrity away from starting over as I'd over-faced myself with upgrades and was being rather over-optimistic! Didn't anticipate that anaconda interdiction while building up the reserves again.

What a rush though, managedto jump away just in time and get myself back to dock across the other side of an anarchy system while trying desperately to avoid any further interdictions... Love it :)
