Cause of the trade-grind frustration, and respect to all traders

I have decided to try different occupations for a week, this week it was trading. Did the rare trade goods in a Cobra for a day, wasn't too bad. Whenever you got close to the player populated areas around Lave and Witchhaul, interdictions became common, but I could outrun most of them, and when I couldn't the purchase costs of rares isn't that steep and the Cobra I was running had a get-out-of-death-for-63.000-Creditcard attached to it.

But this isn't real trading I told myself. I have to get into a Lakon-type 6 find me own trade routes and try that for a while. So pointed the Cobra southward, hopped a couple of lightyears for more quiet waters with almost no players, found a traderoute with a measly 1100k/t profit one way, 800k/t return trip. Great, we're all set. Bought a Type-6, best shields I could bolt on (still a coward) ,loaded it up with goodies, set destination and launch! While being transported to the hangar I was kind of happy with the all-around view. Then the engines were engaged, and I set off.

Jesus wept! This isn't a spaceship, it's a spaceboat. Ok, it's slow, what did I expect? just boost out of the station, boost to get seperation and engage hyperdrive ... Heat levels critical? My word, this Hippo actually breaks a sweat going into hyperspace. *shakes head*. Fly towards destination. Line up with the letterbox and turn ..... and turn. Turn damn you! I don't speak engine but I think the feedback I'm getting from my flying brick is: "Oh god it hurts, please no more turning, pleaeaeaease, oh my god, oh my god oh my god".

I have sat on toilets that handle better than this. I know moons with smaller turning circles.

And people do this for days on end just to be able to fly something nice?

I have a new-found respect for trade grinders. You are better people than I am coping with this hippoboat. I'm going to finish my week and after than I promise to be nice to anyone I see flying in a Type-6. I'll make lots of room for them in letter boxes. No need to add insult to the already significant amount of suffering.

Dear Zeus, let this week end fast.

I can't imagine the type-7 and 9 handle any better. At least at the end of the week I'll be happy for once to get back into the Cobra.

If you outfit the Lakons carefully they can be made much more comfortable to fly. I imagine most traders move up the second they have the funds to pay for the hull, a full set of cargo racks, trade capital for 100T and the rebuy. There is a lot of pain at the start but it eases off over time.

The Type 6 isn't even that bad to fly at all. The Type 9 on the other hand, it gives a good feeling of being a massive cargo vessel.

I actually miss my type-6. When you upgrade it properly (and fly with a shield), its quite nice, doubly so in the rift where you can use that fishbowl to see all around you.

I usually never fly these cargo ships, but recently I did the luxuries run in Beta Sculptoris and bought my first Type-7 just for that. My initial thoughts were much the same as yours. However, putting on the best thrusters and switching everything else to lightest possible components (D, or going down a size when possible) makes it a bit better, and going down a power plant size to grade A gets rid of the overheating. A few hours of grinding and suddenly I realise that I can land it quite nicely (i.e., full power to engines, a couple of boosts, glide through the airlock and brake by deploying landing gear)…

Still, I sold it after two nights and I don't see myself going back to it.

The T9 is a flying turd for sure. Going from a Python to a T9 was a shock. Going from a T9 to an anaconda felt like I was back in a viper :)

Yeah, they handle like boats but that's the fun of it. It's like driving a wakeboard boat with a newbie on the back, have to take really slow, deliberate turns.

The Type 9 is a beast all in itself. I hate flying it but love flying it. I was doing a lot of trading in my Python and finally just said screw it, let's go all in. And man, the loop of shame is loooong. But you learn to adjust, you line up with the mail slot from further out and shoot in while rotating, no more 'last second' adjustments lol.

And FA Off with boost makes them turn a bit quicker, just don't do it near a station.

FA Off flying through the mail slot in a Type 9 was really fun. But I couldn't land it so FA On!

I do all kinds of extreme flying with my type 6, it got the best thrusters tho. Yeah its a pain, but play it smart and T-6 (and maybe Asp) is the only Lakon you need. Instead of T-7 go with Clipper, T-9 with Anaconda, both much nicer to fly.

Oh yeah going to an Anaconda felt so good, but I appreciate the way the T9 flies.

I fly a type 6 for my rambling rare trade runs and find it quite fun..
Due to the nature of the rare trade routes I do (70 stop circular route with no waiting at any station) I only need ~80 cargo space which means I can have a good jump range and space for extras to help me out if I'm interdicted. Having upgraded the thrusters and others components of my ship I've found that I can pull off some quite fun stunts when coming in to dock.. it's quite hair raising sliding a type-6 through the slot at full speed, sideways, as you've taken the tightest route round the station. I also enjoy the travel between places as my route covers such a large number of systems none of it is ever really familiar to me.
I guess enjoyment is where you find it, the other plus side I find of my roving lifestyle and the money it brings in is that if I find a fun bit of combat happening in a nearby system I can park my T6 and afford to buy and outfit a new fighter wherever I am just for fun then either stash or sell it when I'm done before heading off again in my T6.
The only thing I wish for to make my life easier is the ability to stash my T6 with all it's cargo rather than having to sell things at a non optimum stop just so I can change roles.

I didn't mean to buy the T9 when I did. I was looking at the "buy" panel thinking to myself "Soon you shall be mine" but instead of clicking cancel I clicked buy.

Ended up with the T9 with only 20 million to spend. Got the FSD and cargo and flew for a few hours with no insurance. When I first took off it didn't even feel like I was moving. With no other upgrades it was painful. Once I got the upgrades it was slightly bearable :)

Oh yeah ouch that wouldn't be so fun, I saved up 110 million before buying it. I only ended up having it for three days haha, went hard over that weekend for an Anaconda.

The Type-6 is actually fairly zippy for a trade vessel. They're also great with heat compared to the bigger ones! Luckly you can easily run one with an A2 power plant.

That said, I *love* the handling on it (on the Type-7 as well). It really gives the feel of a big, lumbering beast. That *and* my Viper basically feels like magic after I switch to that for some combat.

I was in a t7 for a few hours. Maxxed it out. Went back to an Asp. Between the perpetual heat issues, the low range and the way your shields and hull melted under just a few seconds Viper fire it just wasn't that much fun to fly.
