Sorry Tobias, only just spotted the forum thread for this for some reason. Super excited for this and will give it a shoutout on Lave tonight. Wondering where the best place to send people is. Perhaps this forum thread since it then has the Discord link right at the top (and I still prefer forums to reddit).

Ironic since reddit was how I learned about Elite Racers in the first place... :p

But yes, here sounds good. Thanks for the shout on Lave! (And thanks for the reminder to go make a bbcode signature for this!)

I have now tested my ships, which are prepped, docked and good to go. I do worry what will happen when I mix my gung ho piloting with other commanders. It is messier in ships than an SRV. This could be epic!

Well after the first races in the Olympics I found out a couple of things that surprised me. First it is a lot harder with other ships to keep your speed and attention going. Ships doing more than 500 m/s in a tunnel do not really have brakes. The Eagle is tougher than a Viper, but the Viper be faster. Great fun all in all! Oh and Buckyballers are all nuts.

There's a lot to be said in live race events involving others for simply being the slower guy who doesn't crash! I won silver in the 8WD championship using that tactic.

That said, I fully appreciate that you are not that guy!

Week 2 (24 Feb): SRV Racing

The 3310 Winter Olympics will continue on 24 February with Week 2 competition, featuring SRV Cross and SRV Rally courses at Cayley Barracks on 4 Eridani ABC 7 h.

SRV Cross course (adapted from Zahn Legacy Speedway):
  • SRV Cross events will include an individual competition and team relay.
  • The individual competition will consist of 3 heats followed by an event final, with each race being 3 laps.
  • For the team relay, teams (ideally 2-person) will be formed based on the results of the individual competition. The relay will be run as two heats (A/B order and B/A order) followed by an event final (teams choose order). Each racer will complete one lap with handoff occurring at the bottom of the base entry ramp.
  • No pip limit will be enforced for this event.

SRV Rally course:
  • The SRV Rally will be a point-to-point race. There will be 2 heats, with each racer's best time counting towards the final standings.
  • No pip limit will be enforced; 2-3 pips is recommended for newer racers to improve traction on the ice, however this comes at the cost of flyving capability.

General rules:
  • Racers must pass through all gates (e.g. gantries and lamp post pairs) noted on the course maps/videos
  • Gates are one way only
  • Basic hull repair synth is allowed

See Elite Racers Discord for details, discussion, and all event-day comms.

Quick question, particularly for the more experienced SRV racers. Is there a quick way of repairing the SRV during a race? I am a little hard on the thing and will need to repair during racing.
