my contribution to celebrating 30 years of Elite.

has it been 30 years already, elite was released just before my 14th birthday, with this in mind I thought that creating a thread to celebrate it would be the right thing to do.

this is my tribute, its my first attempt at putting a video together so would like some feedback while reading your thanks to Frontier for bringing us a dream that we have all held since the days of old.

Celebrate mate, other than that. Amazingly beautiful video, the transitions between scenes were well done and smooth.

sorry man, IMO its not your best work. the pace of it is too slow to hold the viewers interest and a 30 year anniversary video that doesn't include any footage from the original game as well as the reboot misses a great opportunity.

some fade in's between old and new/ new and old would have been nice, maybe a docking sequence that transitions between the old game and the new one as you enter the letterbox, a hyperspace transition and a J to supercruise between the two.

it also needs a bit of action to keep the viewers interest, again transitioning between new and old and vice versa at points of interest (like blowing up a ship)

all these would serve to emphasise the roots of the game and how far it has come while staying true to the original.

my number one suggestion would be before even recording any video plan out a storyboard for what you want to include in the video, you could always ask the community to help you film it.

yeah had a rough story board planned, didn't quite follow it, the idea was to have the music which is 800% slowed down and have the video to playing long sombre moments, the idea was to dwell on what is, still my very first video, never done it before and its all a learning experience.

I'd of busted a grape if the first scene with the planet had transitioned from E:D ingame image of a planet to the original Elite image of a planet spinning around.

Showing different ships crossing in front of the camera, then swapping to a shot of the same original wireframe ship passing by would have been amazing too.

not impossible, but without the help of others would be difficult to put together. and to be honest doing a transition between old and new would in my opinion look rather disjointed, and unfortunately I would be unable to supply any rose tinted glasses. best to remember the old experience and move into the new.

Nice Work

Who can knock something created from the heart? Thank you and nice work Mobius! Happy 30th Anniversary Frontier Elite! :)

The sands of time is strong in this one.

Absolutely. I think it's a great job .. and great music too, who is that?
(btm. adding a link (iTunes?) of the track in use, and in description is a good way to avoid any "PRS issues" and supports the artist in question by mutual return :D)

Quite concious of the sands of time today, of all days ..

I was 15 at time of release (and I haven't aged a day!!)
... well, I had .. but recently I seem to have Benjamin Button-ed back to being 15 again! Funny that

Should it be either 30 seconds or 30 minutes long or even 19 minutes and 84 seconds (20:24) if you dont have enough content ?

it would have appeared that loads of separate threads are popping up offering their congratulations to the 30th anniversary.

You need to hold them by the ear, or there will be rebellion before you get to the supper. Business as usual, with other words. ;)

I might have enjoyed it a little more if I hadn't heard this music before and knew what it was. It does sound much better the way it is though. ;)
