Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing

I was five in '69 and the adults were making a big deal out of what they were watching in fuzzy black and white being broadcast on the little green and white TV in our den...I was made to stand in front of it and saw the man climb down out of the LEM and set foot on the moon.

Fifty years later, I'm remembering that day. I know a dusty grey moon pocked with craters and just bright enough to pass for Earth's moon...so I'm in my own Lunar Rover (SRV) listening to Brian Eno's "Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks enjoying something similar to what Buzz Aldrin called the "magnificent desolation."

Finding an interesting planet or moon and heading out in the SRV is one of my favorite things to do, the more remote and isolated the better, and the soundtrack of choice is almost always the ambient music of Brian Eno. Here's to pocket protectors, slide rules, landing a man on the moon...and Tang!
