Censorship

My email tells me the "[PROPOSAL DISCUSSION] Concerns that PVP won't be fun for either" update thread has been removed.

It was a lively debate concerning the perennial PVP/PVE discussion that a lot of MMORPG's seem to enter on their forums.

It seemed to get a little heated at times but there did not seem to be anything really insulting going on, so I can only assume the thread was removed because of the content.

Well that is a great shame if ED is following in the footsteps of repressive forums that ban content they either do not like, or does not fit with their idea of good content. It also speaks of the fact that a game that has been crowd sourced by the proposed customers is now disrespecting those backers by imposing censorship on them.

Regardless of your views on the content of the removed threads I think censorship of financial backers is a very bad decision.

EDIT.. It appears that the removed thread message I received from the forum when I attempted to follow the link has now either been repaired changed or was erroneous. So I am glad to see that censorship is not being applied.

The thread is still there.

Have you actually checked to see if it has been deleted, or perhaps moved to another sub-forum?

Yes that's the one. I was puzzled as to why I received the message of the thread being removed, but it seems to have corrected itself now.

404 error I would say my computer, but removal of thread message would have come from server. Well whatever reason it happened I am glad to see my fears are unfounded.

My email link is still working so perhaps it was moved at the time I tried to access it.

I've checked the thread log and nothing has been edited in the thread and the thread has not been moved or closed.

If you followed a link that may have been broken that might have caused the error.

As for the suggestion that the Forum Moderating team/and FD themselves censor the forum. If the thread/post in question directly contravenes the rules on content or degenerates into abusive or argumentative for example etc, moderator action would usually be a request to stop, removing offensive content or, issuing a warning or infraction and last resort would be closing the thread, not deleting it.

If you have trouble finding a thread in the future, I'd suggest using the search function before citing censorship. ;)

and if you still can't find it ask for help doing so, the search function can be a bit tricky to use at times so you may not find the thread you're after even if you do know exactly what you are looking for.

In general, if the discussion degenerates, they just close the thread. I've never seen a deleted thread. The moderators are flexible and tolerant on the forums. And they warn several times before closing a thread

May I suggest this thread be deleted as it makes a false (admittedly unwitting) claim about censorship ;)

but wouldn't that be censoring the thread about censorship? and if it was deleted then the point of the thread would then become valid as censorship (of a sort) would be taking place?

He can then make a true claim (voluntary) if this thread is deleted

:D

On that one, the same idea at the same time

:)

Oh no the lets fundamentally change the design of ED, and base it around a mmorpg thread died?

This made me happy, then it turned out not to be true.

sigh..

Well I'm happy for those that were enjoying that discussion. Fruitless though I pray it will be.

You see the words "IF ED IS FOLLOWING....." Amazing how the little word "if" can be totally ignored so some posters can misinterpret the original post. I still maintain that when I received the message that the thread had been removed, that had to come from the server. It may have been a server glitch but not being able to link to it led me to postulate possible censorship, which I then corrected after I was able to link to it, by editing the original post.
