Certain weapons randomly not firing

Since Update 7 I've been having an issue where a certain weapon or more will just simply not fire for no apparent reason (it's not damaged, has ammo, enough WEP power, etc). Seems to still be happening in Update 8, as on my Anti-Xeno ship in Odyssey one of my gauss will just flat out not fire no matter what I do. I first noticed it in Update 7 on my Type-10 where two of my multi-cannons just will not fire no matter what you do. Even if you put them in their own fire group and have full WEP power, you'll pull the trigger and... nothing.

I made this issue way back, but it seems to have expired: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/43088

Additionally search seems to show this one, which by the title seems to match what I'm experiencing, however if I try to load it I just get error message that "The issue could not be loaded.": https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/43595

Don't seem to see any other issues on it in the issue tracker though, so was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, or if perhaps I'm just not finding the right issue on the matter in the issue tracker?

Check your weapon fire group settings in right hand panel.

I recall that recently mine went missing after an update.

Hope this helps

Are they not firing or are they disabled? If the latter check power assignments. If you are moving new modules in or engineering modules power assignments reset to 1 so anything after might be disabled ... I know you said "power" but this has happened to me having set power things get changed when you aren't expecting.

Also fire groups - I've occasionally set extra fire groups by accident when navigating menus badly whilst in VR.

Just a thought, probably you've already covered.

Hey, I had the exact same issue. Turns out ship kits in Odyssey have hard models and can block hardpoints from firing.

Try stripping your ship of cosmetics and see if that works?

PS: Post a pic of your ship, I'm curious how it looks!

Ship kits don't have hard models from the point of view of collision detection. Maybe they do from the point of firing arcs though.

I have noticed though in some rare circumstances certain weapons (gimballs/turrets) don't like to fire in certain slots and the way to get them to fire is either to remove and re-add or disable/enable. Then they work until the next time you log in or something. I've never actually got to the bottom of it. Had this problem with the medium hardpoints on the Krait, i think it was with certain turrets.

Some shipkits for sure cause problems with weapons firing in Odyssey - the Cobra 3 Raider kit for example prevents the left (iirc) underbody hardpoint to fire if certain parts are applied that essentially block the line of fire. It's not a problem in Horizons because collision detection is off there (in EDO I can walk on ship kit parts).

If a ship kit is involved in the OP I'd say it's almost certainly that.

Can OP also rule out that these weapons simply don't have an angle on the target?

A good example of this is the class 3 hard point on the underside of the Vette. If it's gimabled it won't fire unless it can see the target.

I went through frontier support with my issue and they asked me to make a video showing the issue. It's short, less than 2min.
I was kinda baffled, because if I launced the Horizons client, it worked just fine.
Switching hardpoints or swapping them didn't work.

Frontier Support were the ones that suggested I remove the ship kit from my Krait MK2, and after a bit of personal testing, it turned out that it was the Raider Bumper 3 that was blocking my hardpoint from firing.

Be sure to rule out fire-groups, pips, power, power priority and ammo first.
I can't say for certain that OP may be experienced the exact same issue, but it's a start.

Doesn't that make it... pay to lose?
It does actually! I noticed something was off during PvP fights that I was losing horribly and I kept asking myself, why is my damage so low 🤪

Interesting. Also interesting to note that in your case it was also the Krait. As I said, in my case, i could get them to fire (at least temporarily) by disabling and reenabling.

Oh no.. not the Krait also... I have the Raider kit on that but simply hadn't tried it out yet. I can also confirm that with the Cobra kit it's a specific part that blocks the firing (in my case it was the Abrasion blaster, had the ship built for core mining), others are indeed ok.

And you can easily see how this happened - in Horizons it wasn't a problem because kits were "intangible" - but this would've been (and indeed was during the Alpha) weird in Odyssey since you can walk on the ship and "ghosting" through parts of it, or indeed fall through it (say the pizza box winglets on the Krait) so they decided to make them solid. But didn't think things through properly what the implications would be in other areas. As so often being the case. Shooting from the hip, worry about issues later.

And Frontier support suggesting the solution means they are aware, and yet we're 6 months in and the issue hasn't been addressed still.

As it happens they're currently selling the Raider kits at 40% discount - GG Fdev🤦‍♂️

Had the same issue during the "Alpha". MCs on a Cobra III. Posted it on the issue tracker and nothing ever came of it. On the full release the issue did not present itself. Then again, I wasn't using a Cobra with MCs at launch either.

I'm not happy about it either but it is the 2020's

Customers = beta testers

Not a insult, just honestly a global industry standard. It also works, gamers will buy anything shiny.

I mean people bought Cyberpunk, Fallout 76, Warcraft 3 Refunded, Diablo 2 Refunded, Fallout 4, Skyrim, No Mans Sky, Battlefield 4 etc.
Some of these games redeemed themselves, others were fixed by the players with unofficial mods, but only years after this so-called "release".

Heck, people pay for unfinished products knowingly too, then pin a little badge on their t-shirt that says "Official Supporter, backing game since 20XX"...
Makes them feel empowered, on par with the company devs and way above the other peasant players.
Gosh golly, they defend the product no matter how bad or broken it is, bullying anyone that dares speak a ill word towards their investment.

OOH OOH! There's a lot of them in this one game....What's the name of that game that runs even worse than Odyssey... that people have thrown their money at for a decade now... gosh... it's two words, one starts with S the other with C?

There's also a group of individuals for whom Elite is the only game they play - I suppose if you're not exposed to games that do ship feature complete, relatively bug-free and run well enough then you might be more accepting towards it.

Cyberpunk was and still is quite buggy, but it sure as hell is pretty and given what's on screen it runs very well indeed, even with ray-tracing enabled - though DLSS is doing a lot of heavy lifting and is pretty much essential, at least with my card (2060S). Without that I can hit 60fps no problem at 2k and High/Ultra settings, and there's a lot more going on than a handful of NPCs walking around in a small settlement/concourse.

NMS I purchased a year or two ago, and it ran and looked so bad I refunded it straightaway. Although I've since repurchased it (both times at 50% off) it's come a long way and dare I say it there are areas where it looks better than Elite now (I still play Elite more, but I don't mind admitting this, fair play to HG for pulling it off).

I kept thinking about why I gave Frontier more the benefit of the doubt when it came to Odyssey - I can't really say why other than having played a reasonably stable and clean version of the game in the form of Horizons for quite some time, so the idea that they would completely wreck that basis didn't really cross my mind (although with the janky pre-Alpha footage first doubts appeared in my mind - but I naively believed Frontier's reassurances regarding the main trunk fairytale, in hindsight pretty stupid of me but I was maybe too invested emotionally to see it for what it really was).

SC isn't something I'm going to entertain as an option, it looks good on paper and visually it's quite striking but I don't like their business model and the idea of stringing people along until the next update. One space game that does that is already enough for me ;)

Nope they are fixed, they should just fire whenever.

And nope, not disabled, and verified fire groups as well. Not ship kit either as that would always be preventing, whereas it's an instance by instance thing. Sometime they'll fire, sometimes they won't until changing instance.

Also when it happens they aren't firing at all and not using any ammo, so it's not like they're hitting a ship kit. and in some cases it's on ships without those.

Same problem here - strange thing is my AI opponent seemed to have the same issue, he jumped me while I was scanning a system, we ended in a awkward headbutting contest untill he buggered off.

Later on I ran some tests - and switching fire mode to Forward Fire seemed to fix the problem, at least when alone in space.

I have yet to test in combat.
