Newcomer / Intro CG - High RES vs Haz RES

Hello CMDR's!

I've recently moved from High RES to Haz RES and, from a combat standpoint, I'm having a lot more fun!

However, for pure income (and particularly to reach the higher CG tiers), I'm starting to wonder if High RES may be the better spot.

I obviously get fewer kills in Haz RES than I do in High RES but I haven't noticed much better bounties for the trouble.

Has anyone checked the numbers more closely than I did and come to a conclusion as to which RES provides the better income?

Otherwise I'll simply compare the numbers during the next CG. I do find High RES a little boring now so if it's a know fact, I'll go with the findings of more experienced pilots.

Thanks!

Yes, if you're purely after credits/hour, High RES is better. Simply because the bounties on the pirates there are just a tad lower but with the help of police you can kill many more in the same amount of time.

But like you said. In Elite there is a very thin line between fun and boring repetitiveness. So be careful. :)

Very true, but there's a psychological factor I haven't mentioned : obsession...

I started doing BH about a month ago. The last CG was the first I participated in on the BH side. I reached top 10%.

If my numbers from last night hold, I expect to be in the top 10% on this one as well (if Inara's right, the breakpoints right now seems to be 28mil and I was at 36mil yesterday night).

For some time to come, I suspect that I will be totally obsessed with that goal! :D

Thanks!

Elite does that to you. Apart from you finding yourself buying PC equipment you didn't know you need, previously, it's highly addictive on so many levels. :D

Don't get me started on my brand new Hotas T-flight X...

20-some years of muscle memory dedicated to a gamepad is hard to switch from.

On the previous CG, I started hauling with my Anaconda before switching to BH. New controls + Anaconda + Mail slot did not work out well at all! :D

Don't know if I'll find the patience to make the switch for good...

High RES has always paid better than Haz RES because you have the feds to help kill faster. You get the best money with long-range sensors and weapons, and a fast ship. That's so that you can always land a shot before the feds finish off the perp.

I wouldn't call it that black and white. High RES will have multiple groups of cops patrolling them, which usually means it's impossible to be there for every Conda/Python/FDL kill, especially when the cops patrol upwards of 15KM (far beyond the range of sensors). So while the cops help in bringing down targets, they'll also steal a lot of your potential bounties while you're 10km away claiming another. The spawn rates are also lower in my experience (perhaps due to some of instance-cap being taken up by the cops?).
Haz RES on the other hand does still have the odd Pirate vs Pirate fight, but for the most part when a large bounty shows up you can finish killing off the Python/FDL you're near and not have to worry about it being destroyed before you get there. There's also a higher turnover of targets.

There's merits to both. High RES is certainly easier to farm, but HAZ RES has been my default since I got a 'Vette, and cop presence became more of a hindrance than a help.

That's not right at all. You get a different spawn of NPCs each time you arrive at the RES, so you jump in and out until you get one with the right quantity of big ships for money or small ships for ranking. I've collected 100,000 bounties from every type of RES, which is over 6 billion credits from bounties alone. I'm therefore pretty sure that my comments are well justified and qualified. Did you ever get a payout like this from a haz RES?

I've cooked well over a thousand meals, that doesn't mean I'm a chef. Experience and understanding are two different things. For all you know, you've been doing it inefficiently and that 1 billion could have been 2 ;)

Let's assume that I'm useless when it comes to RES farming. It would seem a reasonable assumption then that I'd be equally useless whether in a high RES or a has RES; however, Id have to be completely mentally too though to not have figures out which one gives me the most money after 2000 hours doing it, where I spent most of the time experimenting with different ships, different load-outs and different methods to try and optimise my earnings rate, which made a billion credit payout possible.

I have a suggestion. Go and get your billion using your method and we'll compare times.

Jeesh, how long did it take you to accumulate that 1B turn in? No disrespect, but that took longer than a few hours to accumulate.

Best I've done was 10.5m in a hour and a half. Had a very good instance for that much. I'm aware of hopping in/out to change instance. Care to share what technique you use?

If you sign up to Power play (I did ZH), you get double the bounty payout, so you can get around 20 mil per hour. I think that's gone up since 3.0, but it's now harder to collect from one station, and the Interstellar Factor will take 25%.

If you don't get a good spawn of high value targets, jump out into super cruise and back into the RES to reset the spawn until you get a favourable one.
