CG Mined Platinum must not be *stored* on Carrier??

Hey all,

I was watching a video yesterday that mentioned the current mining CG. Now, I've been doing a little mining and then offloading it at my Carrier - as I've done for similar CG's in the past. The issue here is though that the video states that if the mined Platinum, if offloaded at a Carrier at any point, loses its "mined" status, so WON'T count towards the CG. Is this true?

This is like THE use for a Fleet Carrier! A nice large mobile storage crate if you will. There have been other such CGs, but perhaps they could be completed with bought stuff, I don't remember. I just recall mining various things, storing them at a Carrier, then later using a faster delivery ship to offload them.

If player-mined Platinum and bought Platinum are treated as different, perhaps they need to be different wares when stored so this is clear?. I.e. I'd have a "Platinum (Mined)" and a "Platinum (Bought)" ware entry, or something along those lines.

It never occurred to me for a moment that a ware I did indeed spend several hours MINING, might not be counted just because I offloaded it at a Carrier. Maybe this is common knowledge, perhaps prior "Mining" CG's I've done didn't care whether it was mined or bought, whereas others did. I never had an issue previously though. Hope nothing has changed!

Could legitimately Mined stuff also lose its factual "mined" status if transferred to a different ship? I.e. I return in a mining Type 9 with 256 Platinum, I then swap to a Cutter Trader and the cargo is automatically transferred?

I at first suspected that this was perhaps a distinction between buying from someone else's Carrier, rather than your own. Which would be fair enough of course. I then thought that perhaps, at your own Carrier, you Transfer stuff rather than buy or sell usually, maybe that was the distinction. However, the video explicitly states - Commander says they tested it - that either method sees the Platinum lose its "mined" status, which is a problem.

Prior to the CG being public, I'd actually been planning to do a little mining anyway - I've returned from a bit of a break from the game - so, the stars aligned so to speak. I ended up NOT moving my Carrier - I was going to, but then thought I'll do it another day, before the CG was announced. As such, I missed out on a parking space where I'd usually go lol. Still, the Type 9 can carry a lot of fuel, so I can get out to my regular mining location without issue - didn't even need the fuel scoop I added just in case. I then mine for a bit, while listening to music or having a video playing on the other screen, before jumping back to my Carrier. I find it really mellow game-play personally.

Anyway, if anyone can confirm this either way, and whether the Buy/Sell vs. Transfer distinction is a thing, that'd be great. I assumed stuff transferred to my own Carrier would fully retain its "Mined" status, as it has in the past - I've never Sold to or Bought from my Carrier, it's all transfers. Carrier had no Platinum prior to this, so there was no danger of there being a mix of mined and bought. So it's "pure" in that sense. It just threw me a bit when I saw this yesterday.

In this case, since Platinum can't be bought anyway, the CG shouldn't even need to check the "mined" flag. (Whether it does or not is a different matter)

Can't help you with exactly which specific carrier actions preserve or remove the mined flag; since you're seeing different statements already this might well be a "test it yourself to make sure before you load up a full carrier" situation anyway.

Inara says it can be bought, from FCs. Some of these prices though...

Mined-stored-bought-sold?

Before the CG I had some Platinum in my carrier: I transferred over to my ship (not sold, transferred), sold it at the megaship and got that recorded for the CG.

I have never tried buying it from my own FC (or anybody else's for that matter), but I have always used previously mined commodities that I was storing on my FC, and they always counted.

The change of ship did not have any impact (my mining ship and trading ship are different).

Hi :)

I'm presently also out in the black mining Platinum, with the intention of joining in this current CG. I've never bought any Platinum either so I would've presumed any mined stuff you store on your own carrier would be valid in this case....hopefully!

I know that anything even transferred to a carrier doesn't count for merits anymore, but whether that applies to the CG is unclear.

IIRC, any mined commodity is affected if it is ever bought/sold at a Carrier. Probably because it's tagged with the price it was given (overriding a price of zero if mined), to calculate profit/loss for the next transaction. Use the Transfer option only.

Was just about to post exactly the same thing.

I know some people, for reasons I can only guess at, like to buy/sell stuff at their own FC instead of just transferring it.
You'd probably have to remember NOT to do that if a CG called for mined commodities.

While transferring to an FC is fast, Transfer All, the transfer back from the FC to your ship is a lot slower than scrolling the same quantity in the Commodity Market interface. in fact the speed difference is enough to make setting a sell price worth while to some players.

Thanks all.

I found the video again and one of the comments mentioned that transferring stuff you've mined yourself to your Carrier works just fine. This is GOOD and how i hoped it still worked! I was worried that something had changed while I was away.

My Carrier has only rarely had sales enabled, and then just to help out a buddy who was unlocking Engineers. I went and got the stuff for him, so he could just collect (buy) it from me, and unlock the Engineer. I didn't even rip him off on pricing... I'm that nice lol. Another time he set a BUY offer at his Carrier for stuff he needed, so I just delivered it directly. He was rather generous with the asking price. Worked well. I had a little more time to play (then) whereas he did not, so this got him actually engineering stuff sooner.

To reiterate, I do think that buying from someone else's Carrier - i.e. THEY mined it, transferred it and made it available for purchase - making the ware flag as not mined is fine. However, that said, I don't know why any buyer would care. Of course, this is just "gamifying" the process to force people to engage in mining, which is fine. I like mining.

Hopefully be able to get in-game this eve, might mine a bit more after delivering what I have first.

From the time this was first found out, I have always transferred mined goods onto my carrier, As I occasionally mine out in the black and the goods may reside in the hold for months before being sold and if a mining CG should appear then I can say thank you:)

When I have used the Buy/Sell UI at other's Carriers, it's certainly far far nicer to use than "Transfer". However, I never really set my Carrier up to Buy/Sell stuff outside of helping a buddy that time... It still shows three wares exported, but give no indication what they might be... and old issue.
