Newcomer / Intro CG Pleiades exploration - docking request denied?

Title says it all, really - I'm 4 km from the station, the CG is still running as far as i can tell, there's no hostile notices - but docking request denied?    ?

Ironically, you can get permission denied even in Solo. I had it happen, then saw a ship leave. I asked again and this time I was granted access.

Yes, these small bases and space outposts have really limited number of landing pads, so it can happen even with just NPCs.

The landing pads were clear - however - as I said I was less than 5 km from station, but I logged out and back in to find myself 10 km from station! Approached, requested docking - OK - BUT!!

When about 1 metre above the pad the game "froze" I was going to log out and back in again, but went to the loo first - when I came back - "Ship destroyed by Federal Agents"        damn this game!

Ticket raised - but how to estimate exploration data lost? If indeed Frontier will try to compensate for that - maybe just tough luck?

Never walk away on frozen online game! There was an apparent problem with connection on either side.
Also I would restart your router, if I were you.

Let's hope the support guys will be merciful. (Did you raise the right ticket? Support, not bug report)

That's something else I think is hurting this CG besides having the beta ongoing, setting it at an outpost. For one thing, it automatically excludes anyone with a large ship, and then you have to take into account the limited number of landing pads.

I haven't yet been denied access because the place is full, but I can easily see it happening.

There can be only one ship in a pad hanger combination as there is no way short of destroying it to get rid of a ship on the pad so that the ship in the hanger can leave, (thinks) perhaps the design of the cover put in place when a ship enters the hanger could be changed so it doesn't look like an empty pad.

It was happening at the previous CG as well, not at the hand in station but several of the nearby source outposts got gridlocked. It is feasible for this to happen at a station as well especially for the large pads.

If you are within ship scanner range of the hangar then you can cycle through your targets to see if the hangar is occupied.
I remember during one of my first CGs that involved picking up some rares at an outpost receiving a polite message from another CMDR for me to hurry up, as I was in the hangar looking through Starport Services.

Yep. Same happened to me when I first went there as part of this CG. I just kept repeating my request until I was granted permission. Took about 20 times.

Subsequent returns to the outpost haven't been nearly as bad and I've only had to repeat the request once.

Yeah, that's a habit I'm going to have to break myself when I move to Open. I tend to putter around in the map, outfitting, etc. while docked.
