CG Questions and Observations

When you choose to play Open, you've accepted all that befall you.

There will be good people, not so good ones, and sometimes you'll meet the scum. Stay true, accept what's coming, try to avoid, whatever, but don't do dastardly logging out. You agreed to all that jazz by choosing Open.

But if you're doing something important to you, with lots of time or resources invested...

I've played this game for 10 years. I am not the best at it nor the richest but I've never "ganked" (that's piracy for any of you who don't habla). Ganking is usually accomplish by those not well versed in the use of higher cerebral functions, I mean, anyone can pull a trigger.

In leu of challenging an armed/armored vessel, some opt to "gank" a slow moving, lightly armed/armored transport participating in a COMMUNITY GOAL mission.

It should be noted that transport vessel's are normally the only class of ship that can even make a dent the the number of delivered supplies usually required for a CG mission; unless one opts to utilize a carrier or some such vessel, which I would think way to expensive (not worth the reward) to operate for the task at hand and simply not worth the effort.

In the years playing I have lost dogfights, bottomed out on hi-G planets, flown too near stars all of which has cost me ships. Personally I prefer the dogfights, win or lose at least I have the "ganks" to go face to face.

I’m not disagreeing. I normally fly in PG, and about 1/3 of the time in open, especially when doing BGS stuff for the PMF that our squadron supports. I personally believe players should be in open for BGS stuff.

Here’s my opinion and experience only; I’m not pushing my views on anyone. I would say that my experience in open is overwhelmingly positive. I have met many in game friends that way. I have never had a negative experience in open except in specific areas. I generally won’t play in open in the following areas because the jerks hang out there just to hassle players, including system chat spam, pad clogging and other behaviors that I just don’t have time for:
CG’s
Shinrarta Dezhra
Deciat
there are a few other areas that are high traffic areas.

I also play in open when doing AX work, but generally not for titan attacks because of the associated bugs there. Despite what FD says, titans don’t work properly when lots of players are there. I would play in open at titans should this ever be fixed.

An unfortunate side effect of all the fear mongering about open, which is unwarranted in all areas except what I mentioned above, is that I see great fear from many people all the time. I always am friendly when I see another player. I will give them o7, and offer to team up when appropriate. I would say that at least 50% of the time I receive no response, or folks disappear when I present no threat, or similar behavior. Yes, it’s possible that they don’t speak English or are young kids who have been told by their parents not to interact with any players, but ED is known for having a large population of older gamers so I think it’s fear in many cases.

When the opportunity is available, I will always help other players, and have many times given away engineering materials or helped players do things while letting them take all the goodies along the way. I find this rewarding.

So my message is: be the opposite of those negative players. Go out of your way to change players’ perception of the game to a positive attitude. My experience is that the negative players are a very small minority and only do their thing in a few places. Aside from these places, it’s quite safe, so let’s also make it friendly. This takes very little effort and would go a long way to change the incorrect perception that playing in open is to be avoided and will get you ganked instantly.
Thank you for your input. I also play in open most of the time.. My first comment in the original post pointed out that a lot of cargo had been hauled in the two days but almost no one was present at the station. Obviously, the bulk of haulers are in private or group mode. Since that is an option, they will naturally use large ships (T9, Imperial Cutter) with minimal defenses so they can get as much tonnage per trip. The point I was trying to make is.. Is this the best game mechanic going forward. Don't get me wrong.. I love hauling in my T9 but would prefer the open experience over solo.. Not offering a solution per say, just asking the question with power play 2 coming.

Yes. And I agree that the meta for CG hauling is not consistent with open play for all the reasons discussed. Sorry, I didn’t intend to side track the thread. I have said before, and this is NOT to get into an open/solo discussion, that for PP 2.0 there should be a balanced set of incentives to play in open. Not prohibitive, but an incentive that makes it desirable to play in open.

I don't suppose you would have the "ganks" to meet one of your ganked targets in a face to face battle where you aren't selecting a slow, under armed/armored transport you've chosen for a bit target practice would 'ya...a well armed and armored vessel that is?
If you actually read my post I said I am not a ganker.

It's not just Storage for On-Foot mats. It's transferring between carrier and ship that is borked. It's VERY annoying.

The large ships are about being competitive, though given you could get a rack with 1 tonne post Monday, an I courier would have been a viable option.

Ignore the avatar...I am not a ganker....but if I'm in Pirate mode...I will be parlaying.
This I have no problem with. If another player pulls me over while I'm hauling, says stand and deliver, then you deal with the consequences. Drop cargo, run, or fight. That's part of the game.

It's the lads who have the meta FDLs who pull unshielded and unarmed pilots over, usually newer players too, who don't say a word and blow them out of the sky for lols on their twitch streams that get my goat, and are the ones who frankly drive people back into PGs and solo. Piracy is 100% part of the game, but seal clubbing is just for saddos.

The amount of traffic you can instance with at the station will depend on more than just being in the same mode of course.
Region, time of day and connection quality will also affect how much traffic you can see.
