CG's and Lore: Could the two be combined for a more invested player experience?

Would such a thing be of appeal to you as a player?

To make the galaxy perhaps feel more, immersive, regular and slightly believable, I was thinking on the idea of how CG's could be used to subtley immerse players into the lore.

One option I was thinking, was that we could have regular yearly CG's, which give the player not only a reward, but some sort of understanding of ED Lore. For example:

Title: Gifts for the Emperor (Empire Day)
Date: 2nd of January each year
Length: 1x week
Objective: Deliver Slaves to Capitol (Achenar 6d) (note: for duration, anyone taking part in the CG has a temporary Achenar permit).
Blurb: GALNET article and text to explain what Empire Day is, why it's important etc.

Rewards
Tier 1: Imperial Eagle available to purchase for all those who took part.
Tier 2: Imperial Eagle, 20% discount and all rewards from lower tiers.
Tier 3: Imperial Courier available to purchase for all those who took part and all rewards from lower tiers.
Tier 4: Imperial Courier, 20% discount and all rewards from lower tiers.
Tier 5: Imperial Clipper available to purchase for all those who took part and all rewards from lower tiers.
Tier 6: Imperial Clipper, 20% discount and all rewards from lower tiers.
Tier 7: Imperial Cutter available to purchase for all those who took part and all rewards from lower tiers.
Tier 8: Imperial Cutter, 20% discount, permanent Achenar Permit and all rewards from lower tiers.

Naturally the Federation could get a similar goal (involving delivering something from Tau Ceti to Mars), to celebrate the birth of the Federation, and the same for the Alliance (to celebrate it's Alioth's independence from the two major powers).

Others I can think of, include such things as Onionhead Rememberance Day (21 December) for the bombing of Panem, or the Wiccan Ware Race (though I'm not sure how that'd work), or a Cerberus Plague memorial. But are there any other I'm missing? Any you'd want to see? Would such a thing appeal to you as a player?

That's why:

Don't know how to call them though, maybe "long term contracts" or something similar.

Ah cool. Get what you mean. I thought it was more a "this thing doesn't benefit or impact the community beyond putting credits in my bank" (see: my issue with tiers no longer impacting on the events outcome, like we used to have, beyond a binary 1 or 0). :)

How about the Morai CG Memorial Day Last Thursday in August.

gives players the ability to have loads if fun together and earn loads of credits.
Also gives one or two players who missed it/don't like others having fun etc etc the chance to come on the forum and moan for a month afterwards it's a win win.

CGs..Community Goals.. they are all about getting the Community involved.. for the good of the Community regardless of whether being Fed or Imp or Alliance or Pirate.
Something wicked this way comes.. whether it be Thargoids or Poison Gnomes from where-ever..
Lore has to fit in with this theme..
We the Community should be doing all we can to help each other prepare..
that is all :)

Anything that has more lore information and story is good. I like your examples, but I think the rewards are way to good.

The first FSD jump or the first use of a jump drive could be an other CG.

The recent gold CG is a good example how a CG shouldn't be. Almost no information why the gold was needed. No story, no reason why I should participate (beside getting some credits) nothing.

To be honest I'd prefer that there fewer but more meaningful CGs rather than having them as weekly cash cows.

And if they were possible to fail, or if multiple concurrent CGs competed as mutually exclusive solutions to a same problem, and if that problem was something else than "Feds vs Imps".

Ideally, they should be interesting enough story-wise to attract participation without the need for rewards.

Did you just said:

Deliver 1t of imperial slave to a communitygoal to achieve access to one of the most grindy game reward?

I agree this is a good idea.

It's almost time for the Hutton Mug anniversary. I'd love to do something similar to that all over again.

#forthemug!

No. I said, Tier, not tonne. :)

So in other words, depending what tier the CG ends at results in a different global reward outcome.

connecting CG's with lore, yes please!
offering rank locked ships by the boatload where several of us are/have worked extremely hard? hmmm preferably no

I see your point, but I'd just point out that I only drew those rewards from the last time that we had something similar (The 'Gifts for the Emperor CG' which did exactly this a back in October last year). :)

Ship availability contingent on the Cmdr having the required imperial rank to purchase same of course.
