Pull up a seat and make yourself comfortable, and listen to my tales of daring in my first ever CG experience.
To set the scene, I must really explain what happened previously. I had a lovely little home on a station, fully allied with the two major factions, life was good. But it seems I had taken too many massacre missions and the faction that I somehow managed to decimate downgraded me to HOSTILE. Every time I eased my way out of the station, I was interdicted. Initially this didn't worry me until I realised that most of those wanted my head as the newest addition to their trophy wall were, how can I put this politely - damn worthless. Most had a bounty of under 1,000 CR, and were more of a pest that a threat. And their continued attacks were interrupting everything else I did. So it was time to relocated and off to the big map I went. Found somewhere that looked nice, grabbed the appropriate ship and off I headed, eager for the unknown at a new base.
Well the new home was nice, one of the most aesthetic looking stations I have visited. When checking the mission board I belatedly realised that there was a CG at this very station. Hmm, never been bothered to get involved in one before but what the heck, lets try one just once. A quick check of EDDB (BTW, big kudos to the people who created and maintain that system, extremely helpful in so many ways [yesnod]). Checked to see where I could get these commodities, quick refit on the mighty Phoenix Nest (ASP Explorer - my only cargo craft) to give me my maximum of 88T haulage and off I went. First couple of places were disappointing, either low or no stock of what I was after so I extended my range and finally found a good source of supply about 37 LY (3 jumps) away with the bonus the station was only 280LS away from the primary.
Soon I was in the grove, 88T of fish out, 88T of micro-controllers back, nice little profit for the total trip, dead easy to do and around 2 minutes each way from unlocking the docking clamps to landing. Soon I found that I was scooting up the CG ranks, first 75% then into the 50% category. And it was easy so easy in fact I flicked on the TV, and decided to grab myself a nice glass of bourbon. That is when the problems started ......
The first bourbon didn't last the next outbound leg, so another was poured, then another. I didn't have to concentrate, I had this back and forward cargo run down pat. Then I had a slight problem existing one of the stations, I swear the toaster rack just jumped up and hit me on purpose. Then I managed to arrive at the source station, off-load the fish, then for some inexplicable reason, buy the fish again and take them back to the station I originally bought them from. Or the time I 'forgot' to hit the confirm button, only to find out when attempting to sell the cargo after landing that I actually didn't have said cargo to sell! And I am even ashamed of the time I was sitting the stupidly wondering where the station was only to finally realise I have overflown it by 2,000 Ls (or the numerous loops of shame that ended up happening).
So was my first experience doing a CG fun - hell yes, if I could remember some of it. Would I do it again, maybe, but without the distractions lol But fellow Commanders, if you try to follow in my inept footprints doing a CG can be quite dangerous to your health and sanity
