Newcomer / Intro CH controls setup?

Ive owned Elite Dangerous for over 3 years now but just cant get a good responsive setup for my controls. I try every now and then because I really want to like the sim as I remember 'Elite' on the BBC years ago but everytime I try to setup the controls they just dont seem to work intuitively and I simply give up until next time..
I have CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Saitek Rudders. Can anyone give me a simple setup for those that covers the basic controls enough to simply start trading and exploring?
Perhaps Im just too damn old for this now? Im a retired Kiwi and we would like to learn how to fly! :)

Ignore the top images (the MFDs)

Throttle and Fighterstick without using rudder pedals - stick's pinky button set to "Yaw to Roll" as press to Hold - so when squeezed, x-axis movement yaws rather than rolls - you can ignore that and the two Yaw Left and Yaw Right buttons if you want to use your pedals for yaw.

I just realised that doesn't have on-foot bindings. Still, something to give an idea.

follow up... I have found what looks like the perfect bindings file but am completely lost how to get it to load to my setup.
Ive tried replacing the Custom.3.0.binds file in my options/bindings folder (after saving the previous one) but when I load ED there are no presets to apply as far as I can see. what on earth do I have to do to get it recognised so I can apply it? if you reply can you use simple instructions for this old dude please?

When you download the binds file from EDRefCard you will have a file called xyzxyx.binds (the xyzxyz bit will of course be different) you need to rename that to xyzxyz.3.0.binds - that should then be seen by the game when you launch Horizons (or use 4.0 if it is for Odyssey) - what is shown in the drop-down menu of controls is what is written in line 2 inside the binds file - you can edit the binds file in notepad to see or change this second line e.g:

<Root PresetName="CHProFighterstick" MajorVersion="3" MinorVersion="0">

So the drop-down list should in that case show the choice of CHProFighterstick available in the list. (If it was for Odyssey the MajorVersion would be 4).

Now there is one other obstacle: you might not have the same controller plugged in, in which case the game sees a "loading error" and doesn't recognise the binds file. So. in your binds directory (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings), open the file BindingLoadingErrors.log and see what it says. It should be blank if all is well, else it will say what is missing from any binds file.

N.B. Do not keep backups in the same directory as that can cause any changes you make to assignments in the game to not be saved. (This is because of the line 2 name being the same inside the backups)

BTW - Using "custom" for one's binds name is dangerous as that is the name that can be overwritten by the game on error conditions - so I always recommend renaming to something else (like CHProFighterstick.3.0.binds for example) and changing the Root PresetName inside the binds file to the same name, to make it easy to manage.
