Chair and HOTAS Setup with Haptic Feedback

I wanted to “feel” the game so I decided to slap together a gaming chair with a haptic feedback signal routed to my seat and my HOTAS. I found a bunch of great examples of DIY gaming chairs but nobody seems to use a transducer to vibrate the stick and throttle. I used to ride a motorcycle and wanted to replicate the feedback you get when you have your hands on the bars.

I have two Dayton Audio transducers mounted under the chair and a third signal going to a transducer mounted to a wooden spacer between my Saitek X-55 HOTAS stick and throttle. The feedback through the stick and throttle seals the deal. When I strap on my DK2 and fire up the transducers, my ship really comes to life!

Now that I have the wiring setup tested, I’m going to build a more substantial (and comfortable) gaming chair with proper armrests and two transducers for the HOTAS. I will then return the wooden barstool to the kitchen before my wife notices it went missing ;-)

I’ll try to post the build diary here. In the meantime, here are some pics of the prototype just in case someone else is interested in building something similar.
