Community Event / Creation Chair CHEAP replacement handles for holding TM Cougar HOTAS

So, I decided I need to actually use my flightstick and throttle to play E: D, but I don't have a gaming chair and if I plonk them on the table I can play 20 mins at a time max before my wrists give up the ghost. Also, since I have small hands, I can't reach all the buttons / hats comfortably from that position.

I was going to go to the workshop today, but I twisted my ankle yesterday so I decided that I'd rather do this write-up.

I do have an extra office chair, of which I paid 7€ at a thrift store. It has slots for armrests, but the armrests have been lost to the shadows of the past at some point:

I measured the armrest holders, and they are 60mm by 12mm and 120mm deep.

This is what I'm going to put on them:

The stick itself weighs around 4 kg with the base. Sure, I could make a new base for it, dismantle the old one etc, but that's a bit beyond the purview of this project. What I am going to do, however is this:

From the holder will extend a plate with a hole in it that can hold a 32mm PVC pipe with 2,5mm wall thickness.

A steal at my local store at less than 11€ / 5m. They even cut it down to manageable size!

The pipe will be around 300mm tall, giving some vertical adjustment, and locked down in some fashion (I'm thinking screws, but if I go with metal plate, I might weld on a pipe holder or something at the end). At the end of the pipe will be this X-connector:

Why X? Because the store was out of 32mm T connectors. Got a discount thanks to that, but it was still expensive at around 5,50€ each (for two).

Through the connector will be another length of PVC pipe at horizontal. Theoretically this could allow for vertical adjustment, but the connector is too tight. I could, with hammer and some soap for lubrication, get the horizontal tube hammered all the way through the connector to keep the vertical from coming through:

Adjustments will have to be made via moving the plate that holds the controller. Here's the ~6mm acrylic plate I found, spare pieces at 8€/kg (about 2,5kg piece):

EDIT: I have no idea why there was a picture of an asian person in a jacket. Should be fixed now.

Money spent so far: Around 40-45€

Still unresolved: How to attach pipe to armrest holders / chair, how to attach acrylic plate to PVC pipe securely, how to attach the Cougar stick and throttle to their acrylic plates.

I'll try to hit the workshop tomorrow and maybe use some scrap steel that's laying around to fab out plates that fit into the armrest holders and that I can attach something to hold the PVC pipe in place securely but removably.
