Change Commander Name on XBOX1 ?

Howdy- I haven't found this either on the forum or the help. This can have two reasons a) I'm blind b) it's written no where?. Frankly- I can't be the first one wanting to do this. Here's the thing: I'd like to have a different commander name in ED than on other games on the Xbox. Is that possible?

Cheers, Nergal

Your CMDR name on xbox is literally just CMDR put in-front of your gamertag. So, no I don't think you can use a different name in Elite dangerous. Maybe if you use a different gamertag for elite? With Game + Gold account sharing any gamertag on your home/main console will be able to play elite so, make another gamertag.

Hmm, how would that make a difference? You could have the old name searchable for a period of time and link to the new name. And how is it different to the PC Version where you could change it in your profile?

It would be problematic because you would have absolutly no bloody clue who you are actually playing with.

It is differen't than on PC since on PC you just have the launcher and that is basicly the whole social aspect aswell as the game, on Xbox instead of a launcher that is everything you have Xbox Live and the game. You also cannot change commander name at will on PC, you have to clear your save to do that.

Aaah- I didn't know that. I thought it was possible on the PC (I think I even did that in one of the earlier PC version for backers) - However, I haven't tried since as my PC is pretty crap, and can't really handle the game.

So would that mean, that if I switch my Gamer tag, I would have to start from scratch again?

No not at all. That is just how it works on PC. Changing your gamertag is fine but of course it will cost unless you haven't changed it before.

I just ment that it would be problematic if they let your in-game name be seperate to your gamertag.

A good feature on Dragonball Xenoverse was that you could flip between viewing someone's character name and their gamertag.
Neverwinter did something similar with having names shown as "customname@gamertag".

Something similar would work well here in a game where so many people roleplay.

If you want your CMDR name to be different than the other games you play on you will just have to create another Xbox Live Account. There is Gold Sharing now so as long as you have a Gold account on you console you can have as many Xbox Live Accounts as you want. Of course if you go this route you will start from scratch. But there will never be a way to have your CMDR name be different than your Gamertag.

You forgot you would have to buy XBL membership quite often.

I would like that Idea! You would still maintain transparency. That would be a nice feature. :)

Not sure what you mean, you only need one account with gold on your Xbox for as many accounts as you want with Gold Sharing. He wouldnt be buying any more memberships than he is now.

Huh? Not in my experience. I thought it only shared your games on that Xbox, basicly the license transfer on the 360.

I belive I did try it with my brothers acount and it did not seem to work. When I get my gold renewed I will try it out again though, we'll see.

Try it out, as long as you have one gold account on your console, you can play online and share games with the non gold accounts.
Its also a great way to save money, if you have someone you trust, you can have there account on your Xbox and yours on there Xbox and you can alternate between buying Gold. (would not advocate this with someone you didnt know in person, they might steal your account or purchase things with your account)

I wonder.. a brand new acount always gets 1 month gold for free right? Surerly you can just keep creating a new acount every month? Seems like a pretty big exploint and somehow Microsoft might've overlooked it?

No, a brand new account only gets a month free if you put a credit card on it. And no it isnt an exploit, I asked microsoft support about it. Also I added to my previous post that you quoted, please read it.

I didn't call what you do an exploit I called what I thought of an exploit. Surerly you can just add a credit card the remove it again?

You cant remove a credit card from your account while you are on your free trial membership or while you are purchasing gold via your card on your xbox. You can turn off auto renewal and remove your card once the membership has expired, but you only get 1 (maybe 2) free trial(s) (was 3 on 360)

Oh alright.

No that will not be a problem ..the CMDR name is just in game the connections you have on X one are data ..so you can be CMDR "SAN HOLO" but the previous met in XBox will still see your namer tag ..
100's of games give you a option to create a players name in a game but still the Xone uses you MS id TAG to show and find You and the people you met ..

Also you have to set the account to HOME Xbox other wise you will not be able to share Gold, that is probably why it didnt work for you. (an account can have up to 3 home xbox's)

Most of this is true except you cannot have more than one Xbox One set as your home Xbox. What you can do is sign in on another machine and as long as you remain signed in then all your Downloadable games are available to any Gamertag on that machine. As soon as you sign out from an xbox that is not designated as your 'Home' then all games will ask if you own that software and will ask you to sign in
with the profile that does. It does however allow you to save a bit of cash as in my home We have four Xboxes but only two Gold memberships and buy only two copies of any games that we want, (downloads only I'm afraid). Each bit of Content now comes with two licences, One for your Home Xbox and one linked to your profile but be aware that any games you use on a machine that isn't your home cannot be played on an offline Xbox.
You can change your home xbox only 3 times a year which is probably where the confusion comes from. More information can be found here at the Xbox Support page : http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/games/my-home-xbox

The ONLY way I know to have a seperate name in ED; is have a seperate account. As long as your xb1 is set to "home xbox" it will share all of its purchases with all other gamertags on that xbox. (only on that xbox). A simple fix is create another gamertag with the name you want for ED. You need not repurchase the game or another live gold subscription. You WILL be starting over. So if you want to do it. Do it today. Create an e-mail; create a gamertag, create another Frontier account, link 2 accounts together, and start from scratch.

Edit: like above poster; I have 2 xb1s. Mine and my fiancé's. I set her xb1 as my "home xbox" i share all of my purchases on that xbox. (my account need not be logged on to share). I log into my account on my xbox. I only purchase 1 copy of each game (must be digital) and I maintain a gold subscription only on my account. We play Destiny together. We both can play at the same time; with each other.

Your account can only have 1 home xbox. You may switch which xbox is your "home xbox" 3 times per year.
