Horizons - Change order of the latitude and longitude readout on the hud to be the same as pre-2.2 - WHY???

Totally agree. We need more of them - persistent POIs.

And more importantly, we do actually need some way to generate our own destination waypoints. As an aviator I don't have much difficulty, but it could be so much easier to use than just the simplistic information we have - solely latitude, longitude and heading.

(I Also often wonder how the prime meridian is arbitrarily defined in E|D? Perhaps it was simply a start of the static galaxy definition such as prime meridian being closest to the body being orbited, and then subsequently *start galaxy now* was activated...)

I just discovered this thread from commander Khelder. He is addressing those issues. Very well done. The app he designed is jaw dropping!
I am glad to discover that there is already a big move towards this, at least from the player side. This is the kind of functionality you are talking about Rampant, right?

There was a bug that reversed them, it was in the patch notes. They fixed it back.

It is correct now, with latitude first (top), and longitude second (bottom), on your hud.

Unfortunately during the bug a lot of coordinates got posted with them reversed, which makes life difficult when trying to figure out which is which. :)

Alright, I believe that the way it is just now it’s OK. Let’s hope it will remain like that and not change again.

Yes the coordinates have been reversed but we really need to be able to punch in coords at the planetary map and drop a waypoint, can't be that difficult and honestly why did we not have this the day planetary landings launched.

I agree with what you say. Maybe it’s because ED was originally all about flying in space. But of course with Horizons things changed.
Its is somehow contradictory though :

On the one hand surface flying has now become very important, since there are things out there we have to discover.

On the other hand without the proper “tools and instruments” this can lead more to frustration (countless hours of searching without success) than fun.

I'd certainly vote for an improved way to navigate to coordinates. They DID at least enable the compass heading on your HUD in orbital cruise, and it does help a lot compared to how it was before. But I'd still like something a bit more high-tech :)

The planetary map needs to show, at a minimum, equator and meridian lines. Then, we need to be able to create waypoints (just simple go-to would be enough), and bookmarks.

I know how to navigate so I don't find it too much of an issue, but these additions would certainly help!

I agree with the suggestion of a nav computer, too, where we can enter coordinates. If this worked the same way as system search for example, it would be great!

No doubt about it, this was completely necessary and it is a big improvement towards the right direction. So it looks like Frontier is aware that there is a need for better functionality on this issue and is getting there, a bit slowly though.

That indeed is a good idea.

Reading the discussion in this thread I understand that we are now a bit off- topic with the title I chose originally!
Since this is something that concerns a number of players, maybe we could start a thread which addresses those issues, like “Surface Navigation “ or smth.

But, of course the timing is wrong, everyone now is dealing with the new exiting discoveries (except me that I am 20000+ LY away).

so..... latitude is on top in the HUD...
I wonder if that makes all the previous posted coordinates ...as in barnacles...reversed?

The only period it has been reversed (except for initially in 2.0 beta) was from the start of 2.2 beta until 2.2.01 was released. So if people posted straight from the HUD during that period, then yes, they'll be the wrong way around. Anything reported on during 2.1 will be fine.

The whole long: lat: thing is it a bit rubbish personally, the year is ""3302"" why haven't we got location scanners yet after all this is the future yes !!!!!!!!

Lat/long is still a fairly reasonable way to describe a position on the surface of a spheroid. Being the future, we've obviously come up with a way to determine the position without the aid of GPS satellites. :)
