I think we can all agree that proximity mines are the forefront of terrible weapon technology. I have some ideas that I think would make them feasible for use-
Does it sound totally overpowered? Yes. But that's the point! Even if this were in the game, would you really sacrifice your primary or secondary weapons for a defensive mine launcher?! Also, I think giving trading vessels an advanced way to take out aggressors would add a very interesting element to the game, not to mention conflict zones having hostile and friendly mine fields.
I don't know, these are just my initial thoughts. What do you think?
Also, I just really want to see an insane Anaconda build for carpet bombing. 8 hardpoints all mine field launchers? Yes, please.

- Mine field launcher - 1 mine launched?! C'mon, I say 5, if not 10 launched at a time. Not only could it do more damage to more vessels, but it could do what it was actually designed to do and inhibit individual vessels from following you. Also, it could cause cascade explosions at a very short range, so the closer they are, the more deadly your mines.
- Add a larger magnetic field - are they magnetic or seeking? I can't tell! These things are so terrible, how can you?! I say, increase the range that they are magnetic and add that thin green line that represents the gravity well on suns and planets so players will know to avoid that area- also it would add the proximity warning we're used to.
- Smart mines - Mines are only magnetic to active hostiles
- Have different types - Thermic mines, anyone?! Very good option for playing cat & mouse- pretend to run away, pop thermic mines, totally take down a chasing ship's shields and spin around and attack!
- Remove timers on unused mines - Have them be distance-activated. If you go out of sensor sweep, they auto-destruct.
