I've always had a bit of trouble with the fact that we have these station guns that can blow us up effortlessly, but those weapons aren't available where it really matters, like stronghold carriers and the like. The lack of realism always bothered me.
So here's an alternative idea. We now have precedent for hacking being a thing, from odyssey. What if rather than a reverb cascade attack, it were instead a hacking attack? Pilots Federation members would all have some hidden backdoor that could be hacked in extreme cases. So if you do something really bad, you get a message, something like, "Pilots Federation Behavior Threshold Exceeded: Backdoor Access Granted"
And the Pilots Federation gives them access to your shield generator to turn it off. Then, the station could blow you up with powerful, but realistic, weapons. Weapons which could be dodged via chaff or going cold, and so on, but there would be so many you'd still take pretty massive damage eventually.
For cases where you haven't actually violated the the behavior threshold, they would instead just fire a constant barrage of reverb cascade torpedoes at you, which is more fair in most cases, and give a bit more leeway and sliding scale in what's acceptable.
That'd feel much more realistic while still punishing the real rulebreakers.
