Elite / Frontier change the language

Hello there,

I have a little question. Can I change the language of FFED3D with some kind of language files or so ..? English is not the problem ... it just makes it a bit easier for me...

There aren't any separate language files with the current release. This may change with the next release. Then again, it may not :)

ok but the other "mods" (like JFFE or GLFFE) are english to ... there is no chance to change the language because the files are integrated in the executable... :(

Apparently, there was a UK and a USA version of First Encounters. I live in Europe myself, so I can only give information about the UK version. Apparently there are also translations into a couple of other European languages which are basically the same as the UK version (I'm pretty sure a German version exists).

That being the case, you may be able to find one of those and use it as a base for FFE3D. I dont think it will work, but you never know.

There are only non-English versions of the original FFE, which you can find if you ferret around on my website, but the only non-English version of JJFFE I know about is a Polish one. As far as GLFFE and FFED3D are concerned, I think you're out of luck right now :(

Which language were you after ?

I think I know a way to change it, but
It is not easy.
It involves hacking the file with a hex editor,
(which I used to do)
and changing the text, but
the chances are that the text is in hex, so
if you know all the ascii in hex it can be done.

I'll look for a link to George Hooper's guide to hacking FE2,
which is how I learnt to do it, and i'll put the link up for you when I find it.

Good point.
I've hacked the ships but never tried to change the text.

It might still be worth a try, as long as the file is backed-up,
you (he, they, who-ever) can't go far wrong.
If necessity is the Mother, then,
