Changes in 2015

Hi guys, an old alpha player here that has not logged in for a little while.

I have a few free evenings this week and the old elite longing is drawing me back. I think I last logged in around January. How has the game changed since then?

I'm sure others can list stuff I forget or stuff I've not done but:-

Powerplay added - political/risk kind of game. Boring for me but fun for others
Mining boost - mining limpet drones added, 2 new ores added
NPC AI - AI improved so they are no longer sitting ducks
New ships - several new ships have been added
Cargo scooping drones added for those too lazy to scoop manually
Docking computer (aka: lazy mode) improved multiple times
And other stuff that I've forgotten..

A bunch of new ships, some intergalactice power struggle you can participate in by shooting and trading, and a new AI that can actually fight now.

Speeding is now a crime around most starports (if you hit something that is).

Capital crimes now incur a seven day cool-off before you can clear your name.

Some new ships.

Something called PowerPoint (I think). Something like Risk in Space anyway.

Wings (join up with up to three other players, as long as you are in the same instance that is).

Lots of audio/visual tweaks.

Murder at the heart of the galaxy.

Any further mission development or npc interaction? I felt those were the major issues lacking last time I played?

New types of missions, missions more rewarding (assassination targets can spawn in supercruise) but it is still quite shallow. No new NPC interaction but the combat AI got buffed. Like, buffed.

Slightly more mission variety, with branching mission objectives (which are best to ignore as they tend to result in a lesser reward).

NPC interaction is still largely sterile (and still one-way), though they do have a larger lexicon of nonsense now.

Assassination missions have improved. You can now find your target and interdict your target in SC, rather than randomly at a USS. And alternative missions offers actually work properly now - you get asked by an NPC to drop out of SC with them (use their low energy wake) and their proposal appears in the comms panel for you to accept or reject.

Oh and signal sources come in three flavours now:
  • strong signal source - convoy of ships or ambush (beware free gold or relics!)
  • weak signal source - usually cannisters
  • unidentified signal source - random

The strong signal sources are good for more challenging combat.

Lol, 2 more questions and thanks for answering so quickly.

Are comms at the state now where you can pirate npcs by giving a stand and deliver type request?

I have previously always played in open, trading my way up to a T9 (still the biggest ship?), is open still a fun place to be?

No comms to NPCs still, probably never. You have to use subtle hints to get cargo from NPCs.

Open is still fun (for a given value of fun). Solo is sterile but safe, and group is what you make of it.

How about looking up the Patch notes?
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=74

There are usual 2-3 active.

1.2.: Wings Update - you can now wing up with up to 3 other players.
- better comms
- NPC flying in wings

Additional ships:

- Diamondback Scout
- Diamondback Explorer

Plus other minor ;) things like Steam Client, Mac Client and XBox One Client.

So I logged back in last night and did a few trade runs in my T9 to get used to the controls again then took out my "weekender" fighting specced Cobra to go and find some trouble. Everywhere I went seemed pretty quiet and I met very few human Commanders.

Where is the best place now to find some PVP and what other things are there to get involved with at the moment?
