So ...!
... I've been playing ED a couple of weeks, and I have a net worth of a (meagre) 4m, earned primarily by trading and trade missions. I feel it's time to step it up and do something else. But my Cobra Mk 3 is specced for trading, so I need to respec it to do combat or exploring. And I need to respec again to go back to trading - each respec wasting money (and more, importantly, the time of finding the equipment).
Of course, instead of respeccing I could save up and buy a properly specced combat ship. A nice viper maybe. But then, won't I need either to stay near my original ship, or to spend time making my way back to it when I want to return to trading (which I will)?
'I know', I think, 'I'll start a new commander, and spec him in combat'. Doh! I can't start a new commander unless I delete my present one.
This game potentially provides a great many things to do, but it doesn't seem to make it very easy to switch between the roles. In fact (unless I'm missing something), you can't really do so without a cost (whether it's the time and cost of respeccing, or the time of getting back to your original ship, or having a non-optimised multi-purpose ship, etc).
I suppose some might say, "Well, if you're a doctor in real life, you can't just respec to being a lawyer without time and money. Hell, this is 'Dangerous': there should be an even heavier penalty for respeccing." But if that's the answer, perhaps I'll have more fun in real life - or Skyrim ;-p
Osito
PS Frontier, if nothing else, please can you make the game remember whether I selected 'fastest route' or 'economical route' each time I log on? Thanks!
