Changing from one Power Play Power to another. How long before I can begin ranking up with new Power?

I recently (2 days ago as I type this) switched, not defected, from one PP Power to another. I've only earned 23K merits with the new power but my rank is still 0. How long do you have to wait before you start gaining rank with the new Power? I cannot find the info anywhere on the webz. Thank you in advance, Cmdrs, and o7.

Edited to verify: Blag, that was indeed all it was. Just needed to do those initial 5 missions to advance. Appreciate the help.
