Changing the voice

Is it possible to change the voice you hear in Elite? If you can will you point me to a resource to show me how to do it? I would love to have the HAL 9000 talking back to me.

You can't exactly change it. You can go into controls and turn it off and then replace it with a combo of Voice Attack and HCS Voice Packs

there is a large variety of voices to choose from including Brian Blessed and Kate Kilck (of Internet Fame) and coming soon is William Shatner and Brent Spiner

An added bonus, if it can done via a keyboard command, you can create your own voice activated macros for actions.

As Commander Havalok has stated, the Voice Attack and HCS Voice Pack combo generally does the trick.

Just to reinforce the other posters, I purchased Voice Attack (needed for voice packs) and then the Astra Voice pack. The immersement from voice control is amazing and now I am making my own commands. The choice of voices provided in the voice packs is around 1300 so there is great choice to choose from. Turn off the ingame voice and talk to your ship!

Yes, they said this in the audio team AMA on Reddit a few months ago. No ETA though.
