Changing to my own ship in an outpost without shipyard

Hi

If you go with your own ship to an outpost, you can dock there and then go to another planet in a shuttle. That's ok.

In the other planet you take another ship you own, and go to the same outpost you docked with your first ship.

There is some way to change between your two ships in this scenario?.

The funny thing is if you go with the second ship to another planet and then you return to the outpost in a shutlle, you can't take your first ship!!. You have to travel to another planet in a shuttle again and request to bring your ship there and then return to the outpost with your ship. Absolutely nonsense.

I think there's a lot of work to do yet.

If there no Apex Interstellar you can’t access your ship, I found this out when doing my 100ly in as Apex.

Maybe it gets impounded by the station authorities. 🤔

That seems more like a feature request than a bug. You have 1 active ship and x inactive ships. We designate our active ship through the shipyard, but you want to be able to designate the active ship some other way. Through the hanger elevator I guess?

I’m for it, but it’s not a bug or something that has to be “fixed”

Yeah, but its the year 3300+.. it would be great to send a message to Apex Interestellar in a terminal of the outpost to request the release of your ship. There is no sense to travel to another planet to do that.. I hope Frontier fix that issue..

It's not Apex - it's Inter Astra. yeah, it should change though. Probably not at the front of the queue though, as there are workarounds.

This is annoying. I got round it by loading up Horizons and it put me inside my ship at the last station I had visited before getting the shuttle.

You can change ship if you are IN your ship.. Not when on-foot. So the outpost has to have shipyard facilities.

In my personal opinion, the whole mantra around outposts being limited like this just translates very badly to Odyssey. Frontline and Intra Astra both fall flat and hard with this. Sadly, Fdev didn't address this blocker and instead chose to just go all in with it. To the point that some systems, which only have outposts, functionally have no way to access the wars except for manually travelling to them in your ship. It's a workaround. It just isn't clever though.

It's as though they had a brainstorm session that went like this:

  • So outposts, guys.... What services do we have there?
  • Well they don't have shipyard
  • OK great, we won't have IA there so done, next?
  • But, shouldn't we think about how that might impact the flow of the Odyssey game?
  • No. Next.
  • Well, they are quite small so?
  • OK, no FS then. Done. Next?
  • I'd quite like to hand in my flora discoveries to my favourite faction in...
  • Deleted. Done. Next.
  • Er, gravity?
  • ...

I've bumped to this wall several times, it is really very annoying! In 'real life' the only thing you'd have to do to access your other stored ships on a station is to simply walk into the other hangar. They don't have to resell, manufacture, assemble your ship again, shouldn't have to involve any shipyard services.

In game terms the only thing you need is a simple menu item, to choose your active ship. It could be on the System Map, or anywhere else, a simple button that opens the Manage My Ships screen. One button, huge quality of life increase!
