Chaos Reborn from Julian Gollop on Kickstarter

There's been brief mentions of this game in other threads but I thought it deserved a topic of its own. There may be quite a few people on this forum who might be interested in a remake of Chaos by Julian Gollop, the creator of the XCOM series.

Chaos Reborn is based upon a ZX Spectrum game that was released thirty years ago and published by Games Workshop. It's a fast paced strategy game where battles are usually resolved in about 20 to 30 turns.

You begin each battle as a wizard with a book of spells that you use to summon an army, create defensive fortifications, upgrade your wizard's equipment and attack your opponents directly. One of the defining features of Chaos is that the balance of power in the battle can change dramatically from one turn to another. Even in a position where all seems to be lost the right spell and a bit of luck can win the game.

The new incarnation of the game will also have a campaign mode where your wizard will be able to explore the realms of chaos, building his repertoire of spells as he progresses.

Julian's Kickstarter campaign launched recently and you can find it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1206403106/chaos-reborn-from-the-creator-of-the-original-x-co

If you're interested to know a lot more about the game Joystiq interviewed Julian recently in a live stream where he played the game with Alexander Sliwinski. You can see that article and a recording of the stream here: http://www.joystiq.com/2014/03/04/joystiq-streams-xcom-creator-julian-gollop-introduces-us-to-cha/

There's also a good interview with Julian on Gamasutra here:

It's been a while since I backed anything, and usually that many uses of the word 'Wizard' would send me running, but Julian Gollop games are normally pretty decent... I'm in.

Sod it, completely caved, I'm in. Haven't backed anything on KS for a while and I loved x-com back in the day. :D

The gameplay looks really interesting.

I'm a huge admirer of Julian Gollop, he is one of the great computer game pioneers. I'm rather sitting on the fence over this one though, I'll have to read more about how it'll work before I decide to back it. Not to mention much of my PC time will be spent in ED, I mean how many games can I really play!? :)

Absolutely loved Rebelstar and Laser Squad back on the 8-bit Amstrad, and X-com was great too.

Will have a proper look later on.

I am talking to Julian about the background for the game. I'm hoping to apply some of the design techniques we used on Elite Dangerous.

I've really enjoyed the games I've played, which is good, because it's a genre I've not really dipped my toes in for a decade or two. Well worth backing... Will listen to the interview later.

I backed the game, even though I have never heard of it before. I hope it's good!

I enjoyed RPG's such as Icewind Dale and Baldurs Gate, so imagine I will like this.
