Over the last couple of years there have been a number of threads regarding in-game memorials, commemoration events, charity events etc.
Mostly these threads end in a bit of a bun fight because there are essentially two camps of people within Elite.
Those that like that sort of thing and those that bought ED assuming it was a game.
Personally I am in the latter camp, I respect peoples ambitions to raise money for good causes using ED but do not understand the increasingly aggressive attitude of those apparently defending such things against legitimate in-game activities that are perceived detrimental to the "cause".
All in all it seems more trouble than it's worth.
Here is my suggestion to resolve the problem:
Players feeling motivated to create a charity event could discuss the event in the bespoke forum and ask players to donate towards the chosen charity directly (3rd party websites) or to consider a donation if they were to using the store.
It is important here that all communications regarding community inclusions are conducted with integrity and respect towards FD (no forum ing) and that final decisions remain solely with FD.

- FD create a forum where such initiatives can be discussed in an environment that is more controlled than Dangerous Discussion. Posts here should be pre-moderated.
- FD to create an In-Store donation button against purchases made.
- FD to make it clear that any player organised activity which is conducted in-game is entirely at the mercy of the game. Intervention will only be made if any connected activity breaks the EULA T's & C's. No exceptions.
- FD themselves could nominate one or two charities to benefit from store donations and could also perhaps consider community sponsored charities on a rotational basis.
- Links to nominated charity websites could be available in-store (or wherever) so players can make direct contributions.
