Chatpad Question #17

Yesterday I managed to get ED's sound effects/music running through my headphones(which I have attached to my Chatpad) but for the life of me I can't seem to do it again. Did I just imagine it or am i missing something obvious?

Nope. Does it do it automatically on yours?

I've just read that you'll only hear chat through the mono headphones that come with the chatpad so i've just ordered some nice stereo Turtle Beach ones instead. Still doesn't explain last night though. Oh well.

Might have had your headphones in at an odd angle. They need a special connector to get the sound in addition to chat input/output.

Open the snap menu while your headset is plugged in, go down to the settings tab. You should see a slider for Headset/Chat mixer. Moving the slider to the left increases the game volume through the chat channel.

The buttons on the left hand side of the Chat pad also have the same affect. Pressing the button with the gamepad symbol moves the Headset/Chat mixer slider to the left. Pressing the button with the symbol that looks like a person with no arms or legs moves the Headset/Chat mixer to the right.

In My experience the game sounds that come through this audio channel are usually poor audio quality but your experience may be different depending on what kind of headset you use.

No they don't. It's a standard Xbox setting.

It isn't that simple. You also have to keep in mind non-standard and older aftermarket headsets. There where no specifics given, just a very general "headphones" reference.

As for the OP, try a different set of headphones if you have some. Some cell phone earphones fit as well, so you can see if it is your other headphones, your chatpad, or a system setting that is the issue. If you have a newer controller with the audio jack, as well as the proprietary connection on the bottom of the controller, try that one. If it works without the chatpad... Then that is a bummer.

Apple headphones work fine in the chatpad, the in-line mic seems to work ok to in the snap settings but I don't know about in game as I don't use it.
Sound quality is very good as well.

I've always used Turtle Beach's so I'm not sure what the issue is. They come with an adapter that fits on the back of the controller with volume/chat/mic mute mixer controls built in.

They're also surround sound.... at only £60 for a set of X04's, you can't beat them.

The worst part about forums, aside from the arguments and vitriol, is trying to help someone and never knowing if you actually did so. Don't leave us hanging, OP!

"3.5-mm audio jack – Mono headsets will send and receive chat audio. Stereo headsets will send and receive both chat and game audio."

So, there you go. Sounds like semi-normalisation or some such trickery going on. If that's the case it's entirely possible that a bad contact could make your mono headphones switch to 'stereo' mode and start piping through the sfx & music. Very possible actually, given the pitifully cruddy quality of the chatpad' headphone socket.

Right on the money.

I've had exactly what the OP describes happen a couple of times myself, game audio coming out the mono chat headset when using the chat pad. It's down to the pathetically dodgy 3.5mm socket on the pad, takes me a good few attempts to even get it to work properly each time I connect the headset.

Because I haven't found a willing human to respond to me the last few days i don't even know if the chat element of the headphones is working haha

If you start a party, then look at the green circle round your icon in the party, when you talk it lights up. So even if you are the only one there you can still tell if the mic is working (with the the chat pad 9 times out of 10 it isnt)

Ah thank you, it does light up so that's something. Would be nice to chat to another mortal though, i must have texted at least a dozen people tonight and only one responded and that was simply 'yes' haha

What are the headphones in question?

I ask because I ran into issues yesterday while trying to stream ED. I used my Bose earbuds that can be used as a mic for iPhones. I connected them to my chatpad and they worked for sound for a little while. But about 10 jumps later while exploring, all sound cut out and it never came back. And I've never gotten them to work as a party chat mic in the past, but they seemed to work fine for sound until yesterday. I use my Blue Microphone for live streaming/commentary purposes.

it was the mono headphones that came with the official chatpad. I now have some fab Turtle Beach stereo headphones and so far they're working perfectly.

Well I have a pair of Astro A50's but the chat cable for it has a weird surround for the connector that doesn't really work with the chatpad. It's really frustrating.
