I have one of those small generic £5 gamepads to link to a phone but thought I would try linking it to my laptop with a view to using it in DOSbox for some fun on something like the original F1GP. It won't be the best control system, but is small and handy. Unfortunately I can't convince DOSbox there is a joystick present either in game or using JOYTEST having used all the likely DOSbox config permutations and some unlikely ones.
When I look in Win10 the device (MOCUTE-032_B53-116B) under Devices and Printers allows me to look at its properties as a Gamepad. They show the pad moving the X or Y axis just as I would expect, however it also registers as moving a POV hat at the same time. I wonder if that is what is confusing the issue as it looks like it's giving an analogue and D-pad style signal at the same time. I tried using Xpadder which could only register the pad as a D-pad, so that seems to override the axis control that Win10 is able to show me.
What I wonder is if there is a way to prevent the device from telling Windows it is using a POV hat. Has anyone got any ideas on that at all?
