I have a Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS, which is a very nice beginners throttle/stick combo, but the cable between them is too short. I was using them with velcro on my integrated keyboard tray from my desk, but they were not at the right height. I was considering replacing the cable with an ODB-II cable so I could mount the throttle and stick to my computer chair.
However, then I spotted this Dual LCD LED Monitor Desk Mount Stand from Vivo for $30: http://a.co/d/cu5YqJS
I ordered it instead of cutting up my controllers and it turned out to be perfect. Basically I turned the entire thing upside down and mounted it on the leading edge of my desk. I took the bottoms off of the throttle and stick, removed the lead weights, then screwed the VESA mounting plates to each.

Finally, I mounted the controls to the monitor arms; I had to add a small shim between the bracket and the plate (I used the leftover velcro strip).
It's completely solid: you can move the monitor arms however you want and then tighten them down so they don't move. It's easy to move the entire assemble out of the way when you aren't playing.
Hope this helps someone else...
