Cheapest hardware to run ed while traveling

Well a ps4 is a good bit bigger and heavier than a laptop isn't it?

Thanks for the suggestions. Suspect a bargain laptop is probably the answer.

External dimensions:About 265mm × 39mm × 288mm (width × height × depth)
Weight: About 2.1kg

So, not really, in particular if you do have access to tvs i would go with the PS4, which also comes with the benefit of being a PS4 with a couple excellent exclusives. And it is cheap and comes with a very good controller.

Acer 5740G.

Lol

It's a 2011 laptop, with dedicated ATI (not AMD. ATI, it's that old!) M5650~ 512mb of ram.
4gb of ram, and 'stuff'.

Mine cost precisely nothing, except for 2 new batteries, a new WiFi card, and for it to be taken apart and cleaned, because my brother somehow got crap in it.

It'll play ED on lowest of low settings. At 0.5 supersampling, you can actually do everything.
Except read anything.

Lol

It will look something like this;

Come to think of it, you don't want that. :p

But any Laptop with half decent dedicated GPU will run ED fairly well.

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

Cool, looks like ED 2001 edition. ;)

Two core Intel® HD Graphics 520 laptop runs it reasonably well in 720p. A tablet may be ok as well as long as it has at least 2 cores 4 threads and enough RAM

A refurbished laptop with a decent graphics card is probably the most affordable option with enough horsepower. One I know works well is the HP 8570w. Gave one we got rid of at work to a friend and it runs Elite with no issues on an external monitor. They're about $350 refurbished online, and there are plenty of other options at that price point. Nothing terribly recent of course, but something from a few generations back is fine at moderate settings.

Though it only works on April 1st...

I bought a gaming laptop for when I went abroad for a month. Didn't end up playing E: D once, as there were far more interesting things to do! Mine is i7 with GTX 860M, which works fine. E: D can actually run on quite modest hardware - it also runs on my ultrabook which is an i7 but only has the Intel HD graphics (that laptop is over five years old, too).

I run a 970m in my laptop, but it is my main computer so I wanted it to be reasonably good for the game and last a few years, it runs perfectly with everything high. Laptops are now good enough to run VR if you are willing to spend the money, so in a year or two I will probably upgrade to a VR capable laptop and gaming rig. I also expect the bar to be pushed up a but as far as requirements are concerned when landing on atmospheric planets is a thing, so that should make my timing about right as things appear to be progressing.
