Cheating wont be a problem on consoles.

That just hit me watching a video on IGN about the Xbox port of the game and I realized that open play actually might be a lot more fun knowing there aren't infinite shields out there or combat loggers, although combat logging might still work.

There are pluses though.

Always remember, where theres a will, theres a way... give it time.

Although you are correct, the amount of actual cheaters will be far smaller on closed platform. Most people don´t want to go through a lot of trouble to do that. Combat logging will of course still happen. This is a good reason to prefer the console version as long as you get along with the control scheme.

I suggest you look up the term "lag switching". Destiny is rife with cheats using lag switching to become invincible in pvp. There are also a number of aim bot cheats for Xbox and PS.

Though I've known very few people (among the people I know IRL) to mod their Xbox 360s and cheat, it was still a problem I ran into a little too much online. It may be more difficult to cheat on the One, or on consoles in general, but there's still plenty of folks who will spend the time and money to get that edge. Why play an online competitive game if you cheat? I dunno. But look at the leader board on just about any game and you'll see impossible numbers at the top. Wait long enough and cheaters will emerge on the current generation of consoles, too.

Many do it just to **** off other people. It´s fun for them to imagine how that other person gets angry or sad because of them. It´s a virtual version of bullying pretty much. Contrary to what some people seem to believe, there´s plenty of folks who want to stomp on others at every safe change they get. Some games allow and even encourage this type of behavior (like EVE Online).

And some do it for monetary gain. If there is a competition with money prize and possibility of getting an edge, there is always someone willing to take the chance.
