Cheating?

Ive noticed that ED is using very old out of date game code, its basically the exact same game from the 80"s with better graphics and textiles and imagery.. so my question is how long will it take people to realize they can hack the code? I already have and without going into details should be able to be space rich very soon.

Out of date game code? Is there such a thing? The encryption used by most communications was created in the '60's for satellites. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Lol, that is true, but there ARE better incription methods, neone with an IQ over 60 can change the game,"aside from any online transactions."

Got proof to your claims?

Ne Hex editor Program, and basic knowlage of code. shouldnt take you very long to start playing the game "your Way" lol

Honestly tho i didnt expect to be able to do this, and the reason it can be done is because of the whole instance thing and not being a single persistant universe.

ED has threee things

1. Seperate Transactions server
2. Physical game Installed on computer
3. Instance server, where you connect to other players.

Might I suggest that before a person makes comments on low intelligence, that one might want to learn how to spell things like "anyone" and "encryption"(especially when it was spelled correctly further up the post. As well, perhaps you might want to demonstrate even a theoretical knowledge of actual computer coding. We'll just leave out encryption breaking for now and focus on your claim that only somebody who can be classified as legally mentally handicapped wouldn't be able to alter this game to cheat.

I'm sure we all await your upcoming proof of how you are not amongst a group whose IQ is lower than 60, by your own words mind you.

Bullcrap. It's entirely different, I don't see how you could compare the two at all. I hacked the original Frontier and FFE back and forth; even without going into the very obvious fact that E:D is a client-server architecture (so immensely different from the old games, I don't understand how you could call them even remotely similar) and that things like memory editing will do you no good, and fake transactions and stuff will be invalidated by the server, the language and platform are so far apart it's not even funny.

There's really nothing at all in common between the new game and the old ones, except of course the fact that they're Elite games.

Really, the only thing you can actually "hack" in this new game, is some things that the server (stupidly, admittedly) leaves to the client to decide, like hit and collision detection (I ticketed this a long time ago, of course), but the process is so cumbersome that I don't see it getting automated any time soon. I mean, it can be done, but it's such a big hassle to actually do it that I don't see it happening before it's fixed.
That, and bugs in the server code itself like the Founder's World exploit.

Currently at work, when i get home i will come back to the post and post all the code you need lol.

Just an FYI I choose what spawns in my USS's i drop into

Sorry I wasn't clear it was your "space rich" I was referring to.

Surely if you alter the game code anything you gain from it will stick out like a turd in a bowl of punch as your account is online.

What's the ticket number?

Nah, not 6502, I checked and it's Z80 instead.

Ah good, my Z80 is far better than my 6502, also includes the "undocumented" opcodes such as SLL and splitting IX and IY into 8 bit halves.;)

wow I'm impressed

My god your awesome. So you've taken a look at the code running on the ED server islands and you've compared this with the original code from the 80's and its identical.

Have Frontier got a server room full of BBC micro's or are you thinking Atari's?

Ahhh, good try Cheknov but I see it is just another of your 'I want one universe - no to solo' rants in a very, very poor disguise.

Not trolling at all, But ED should look into this. a major exploit here. me being able to choose whats spawns in a USS. this is not good.

So you're saying you kill-warrant-scan something in an USS, say it has a bounty of 1234, you search for that number in your favorite memory editor and change it to a billion? This can't work, there's server validation in the middle. Also the value doesn't change so unless the number is highly unique (and given that the highest bounties are around 150k I doubt it), you can't do the necessary filtering scan steps.

commenting so I can find the thread easily and see how it progresses...... that being said I have wondered how secure this game is against hacking due to the fact that instances are supposably driven clientside, I am playing a couple of other early access games and one in particular has a lot of its game play driven clientside and this has caused an inordinate amount of hacking. everything from increasing the damage of all your weapons to changing what your new character spawns with when you join a server.

However knowing how this type of culture is so prevalent in any pvp environment that is hackable and the fact I have not seen it here so far makes me wonder as to the accuracy of the op.

So a community member steps out and tries to speak up for the betterment of everyone and people call him a troll? What kind of backwards community is this? I thought insulting players was against the ToS for the forum!?

Mods are gods but no where to be found?
