Checkpoints

Was going to post the same thing. Just dropped out of SC at one. There was a stationary Lakon Type 9 there with four Security Eagles 'parked' nearby in groups of two. There were also a number of visible navigation points around the area and a Viper running perimeter around them.

I first spotted these about a month ago, then they vanished. So they're back again?
I really would like to know what they're all about.

I only came across them yesterday on my way to Lave. Never seen, heard or read anything about them before. Saw the vessels and the nav points as described. Couldn't make any sense of purpose about them.

I dropped out in one two days ago. And before I knew what was going on, I was attacked by two Police Vipers. No provocation or anything on my part. Boosted away and got into SC as fast as I could before my shields were down. Pretty strange thing that. Had no bounty afterwards either so they must've mistaken me for someone else. :)

I was under the impression that the checkpoints appeared when small factions reach a particular state, like lockdown or civil war or something like that!
is this right?

Hmmm I was wondering whether we might be interdicted and told to attend a checkpoint, and would be penalised if we didn't.

One in Riedquat too, so possibly for civil wars. Gotta love unexplained placeholder content. Maybe they are getting ready for a wedding?

My first trip to Sol was yesterday (Sunday Feb. 22). I stopped off at the CP near Mercury and another near ?? (Titan maybe). I thought it was kind of cool ... I flew around very slow with weapons tucked away to see what ships where there.
.
I had no Idea what they were.

They've existed for a while. They show up in systems at war or on the brink of it. Usually there are just some System Defence Force vessels that spout random, oddly unspecific, jingoistic phrases. There doesn't seem to be anything to do in there at present, but maybe it's a placeholder feature for something in development.

They pop up when a faction in the system is in Lock Down. I know I've been in one at least in early January, so they're not new. You'll also notice they'll have System Defense, not just System Authority.

Near as I've found, they let you simply select faction before entering a conflict zone. I could be wrong but I've never found a use for them, you can select faction (or not) when you enter a conflict.
