I am thinking about getting an FDL and was wondering how much money you should have before buying one and I also would like some idea of a good build for cheaper FDL.

You could also try having burst lasers on the middle medium hardpoints and replace one of the A boosters with a D booster. Don't bother with the Plasma Accelerator in my opinion.

Any proficient build is going to run between 75 to 85 million, unless you have a high Rank with Feds or Empire. Due to my ranking of Post Commander with the Feds, I was able to build one out for 70 mil totaling 85 mil in parts in a High Tech Exploited system of the Federation, even though I wasn't alligned with the PP power. The build however has served me well with bounty hunting, of course once you get used to the ship's handling, which takes some time acclimating to when you first start out:

Here's 76.5MCr A-rated build with pulse lasers and a big cannon on the huge hardpoint, 700MJ shields!

Here's the same build downgraded and power balanced to C-rated components (minimum to take into combat IMO). 60.3M, same weapons, 530MJ shields. Can still run a SCB with weapons out!

Whether it's better than an A-rated Vulture in combat is another assessment which you need to make for yourself (-:
