Cheers for random controls reset.

Ha.. that happened to me also.
Was it server side?

I thought I'd vagued out and done something myself. Just bought a new 4k 28" monitor and thought I'd pulled something out
Went in to play and nothing was working, like an idiot i continued to try to launch before realising the pending potential consequence of my actions.

This has happened to me several times , after updates and server maintenance . Now when they do updates I turn on system preflight check before launching for the first time. Has saved me more than once .

where abouts is the controls config file, I'm struggleing to find it

Hey,

You can find your bindings at:

c:\user\name\appdata\local\frontier developments\elite dangerous\options\bindings

Just make a backup, and paste it back when your bindings get messed up.

Cheers,

I wonder if you were to set the file as Read Only it wouldn't happen again.

Although this would be an annoyance if any changes would be required.

We really need to be able to save multiple custom profiles from within the game. Otherwise, these issues/questions will never end.

I've copied my custom.binds file a few times over and renamed each one for every controller I have. CUSTJOY, CUSTPAD, CUSTPADv2...etc

Now I can just select whatever profile I need from the Controls menu...I also keep them backed up, but haven't had to recover any of them since pre-release beta. It did come in handy when I got a new PC though...just copied the files over and didn't have to bother with rebinding.

EDIT: I have multiple profiles for each controller too. This comes in handy if you prefer different setups for combat vs trading vs exploration

I had it happen to me during the week after plugging in some pedals from an old steering wheel. Controls reset after unplugging the pedals.

On the upside I completely redid controls for ED and VA and now they are backed up.

If the binds reference a controller that is no longer connected they will error out - there's a logfile there that will give details - and fall back to defaults. You can manually edit the binds file and take any refrences out rather than redoing everything again.

This kind of rubbish will seriously fail the console technical requirements lists. Can't wait for the console versions now so they have to actually did call rather than just tweak forever.

nvm noticed it has been mentioned before.

Personally I do not see the big deal, just rename each profile to something descriptive.

If you spend half an hour configuring your keys it's damn annoying to have to do it all again.

Then you have to do it every update every week.

How do these devs not notice this rubbish?

Im sure you will be told to make a back up, which I've done and thankfully so, since ED loses my controls often.

But we shouldn't have to make a backup, it should work properly.

Its never happened to me and been playing since PBeta .I do wonder what exactly causes it.
You should post a Bug report

From a developer perspective this bug is the dumbest of them all. Save the config ONLY when the user APPLIES, MANUALLY, the new settings. Bam! Done! Fixed!
