Hardware & Technical Cheesy joysticks... I want a better option

Cheap | Good | Enough Buttons

Pick 2

Good + Enough buttons

Still not clear to me what the answer is given that criteria, particularly since good is subjective. I'd rather have a joystick that will fall to dust after one year of use if it provides the sensitivity I want for FA-Off rather than a stick that will last for 10 years and be sub-par for that entire 10 years in terms of sensitivity.

Warthog would fall under that, my X52 Pro (until it dies, so maybe it doesn't qualify as 'good'), those obscure ones mentioned above....

I'm pretty happy with my Saitek X52 Pro, but I've only had it for ~6 mos -- with maybe 700 hrs logged in ED. It's not as inexpensive as the T16000M HOTAS, but it's a good compromise between that price point and the X-56 Rhino or TM Warthog. The throttle stops did fail on me a couple of weeks ago, but after taking the throttle apart and removing the stop tab, it's now smooth from 0% to 100%.

If looking for a budget stick that is also robust I use a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X and would highly recommend.

Mine still works fine after a battering between all the many hours clocked up in Elite and other games like Warthunder and cost less than 50 Euros (approx 60$).

Did you saw their Modern Combat Grip?

http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4344626/vkb-mcg-modern-combat-grip

But it is sure expensive as hell

The Gladiator Mk. II looks like exactly what I need, price is reasonable at $99. I may order a late b-day present for myself when it comes back in stock on the 15th.

I lack room for a full HOTAS setup and the Logitech 3D Extreme Pro I currently use is OK, but I want something better. I might hold off with some of the products they have in development though.

Aren't the VKBs added to a base? Might want to make sure what you are getting for that $99.

I plan to get the CH Pro Throttle at some point to couple with my Logitech 3D Pro Extreme. I love the Logi stick, it's basic, yeah, but its worked for me for almost 4 years now with only the slightest need for a deadzone adjustment on yaw and roll.

That's all despite being dropped onto the floor dozens of times, my kids (4 & 5) getting ahold of it and whatnot. The damn thing keeps working.

And my old CH Thottle that plugged into the keyboard port and gameport would still be working if MS didn't do their dirty tactic of disabling uploads through the keyboard port back during Win'98. Their excuse was security reason, but all the manufacturers knew that MS just scammed half their customers in an effort to sell their new USB devices. That old throttle became the parts supply for the USB version. The USB version did come with the great thumbstick though.

I've had my Warthog HOTAS and VKB pedal setup now for almost a week and love flying with it. The stick and throttle quadrant are sized right for adults (even those with XXL hands) and require a firm hand to control. Read a article recent where the reviewer was complaining about the force required to move/push buttons. Guess that guy needs to invest in a little hand and grip strengthening. Anyway...

Couple the HOTAS with the rudder pedals and I have a near perfect setup for both my flight and space sims. IMO of course. YMMV. :)

VKB's Gladiator II came back in stock a few days early and I ordered one on Friday. I was going to wait for some of the other devices they currently have in the works, but then my compulsive shopper tendency kicked in and I pulled the trigger. Really looking forward to this as I am not quite pleased with the accuracy of the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (could they have slapped "HD" or "Ultra" on the name of that stick as well?) that i currently have.

Maybe a separate throttle down the line when I can finally make room for on my desk for one.

I have a friend who purchased 2 units of Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joysticks for use with ED. Left stick for throttle and other stuff, right stick to fly with. He swears it's a cheap HOTAS :)

I dunno, personally I use a Thrustmaster Flightstick X (non-HOTAS... my table isn't big enough)
