So... do these things actually exist? The tooltip suggests they can be found in High Security systems, in the aftermath of battles in shipping lanes.

In three months, I've never seen any. Aftermath of battles are rare enough, but on those rare occasions you DO find one, there's never any of these things IN them. Is there some other way to get them?

Also found in wreckage of transport ships, usually the bigger types. If there's no aftermath of battles around, you can always make your own, so to speak, by destroying transport ships. Do so in an Anarchy system so you won't get a huge fine for blowing up transport ships, can also be done at NAV beacons.

Combat Aftermath is fairly uncommon nowadays and last I checked the wrong type showed up more often than the one that gives materials. However, they do still turn up in Encoded Emissions once in a while. You can also shoot smugglers for them (or traders if you're mean). Dav's Hope is where most people go to grind it now.

Dav's Hope used to have them in droves. I haven't been there since Odyssey dropped though.

I've been driving around Dav's Hope for about 5 days now, not had ANY Chemical Manipulators. Endless Flawed Focus Crystals and Customizable Components. Lots of other bits and pieces. None of what I'm actually looking for.

Very frustrating. They seem to have a very different idea of what FUN is.

to get material the easiest way just do high rewarded missions and grab grade 5 offers like biotech conductors, exquisite focus crystals and modified embedded firmware. you can easy trade them for lower grade materials of all sorts!

I get them from trading down Pharmaceutical Isolators.

Well, if you were after fun you should be avoiding driving in circles around Davs Hope; also avoid Jamie's Cobra. Those are called grind spots for a reason.
